US House Democrats have served document requests on 81 government agencies, entities and individuals with ties to President Donald Trump, launching a comprehensive investigation into possible obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power by President Donald Trump.

Among those receiving letters from the House Judiciary Committee include the president's two eldest sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, his former personal secretary Rhona Graff, Allen Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, former US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and former top White House aides Hope Hicks, Sean Spicer and Stephen K. Bannon.

Document requests are also sent to institutions including the White House, Justice Department, Trump campaign, Trump transition team and Trump Organization.

"We have seen the damage done to our democratic institutions in the two years that the Congress refused to conduct responsible oversight. Congress must provide a check on abuses of power," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said in a statement.

“We will act quickly to gather this information, assess the evidence, and follow the facts where they lead with full transparency with the American people,” Nadler said in a statement. “This is a critical time for our nation, and we have a responsibility to investigate these matters and hold hearings for the public to have all the facts. That is exactly what we intend to do.”

The House panel is probing whether Trump may have obstructed justice by firing perceived enemies at the Justice Department like former FBI Director James Comey, and abused his presidential power by offering pardons.

Comey was fired by Trump in May 2017 when he was leading an investigation into Russia activities in the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion with Trump’s campaign.

That investigation was subsequently taken over by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is expected to present his findings to the US attorney general within weeks.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders in a statement on Monday acknowledged receiving Nadler’s letter to the White House and stated officials will review it and respond.

“The House Judiciary Committee’s letter has been received by the White House," Sanders said. "The (White House) Counsel’s Office and relevant White House officials will review it and respond at the appropriate time.”

...said was a total lie, but Fake Media won’t show it. I am an innocent man being persecuted by some very bad, conflicted & corrupt people in a Witch Hunt that is illegal & should never have been allowed to start - And only because I won the Election! Despite this, great success!

Trump said on Saturday that investigators want to look at his finances and business dealings because no evidence of collusion has been found. “All of a sudden they are trying to take you out with bullshit,” he said.

R ~ The obstruction to democracy is warranted however the obstruction to the business at hand is all we see, from both sides of the aisles.
