Preface:  If you are an atheist and believe that religion is crazy, please remember that some 85% of the American population identifies itself as Christian and millions more identify themselves as Jewish.  Very few Americans are atheists … and the majority don’t trust atheists.

The head of Goldman Sachs said he’s doing “God’s work” with his banking activities.

The head of Barclays also told his congregation that banking as practiced by his company was not antithetical to Christian principles.

Are they right? Is big banking as practiced by the giant banks in harmony with Christian principles?

Do Justice
Initially, the Bible does not counsel us to ignore the breaking of laws by the the powerful.

In fact, the Bible mentions justice over 200 times — more than just about any other topic. The Bible asks us to do justice and to stand up to ANYONE — including the rich or powerful — who do injustice or oppress the people.

Indeed, one of the first things God asks of us is to do justice:

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

While many churches and synagogues have become obsessed with other issues, many have arguably ignored this most important of God’s demands of us. As pointed out by a leading Christian ministry, which rescues underage girls trapped as sex slaves in third world countries:

In Scripture there is a constant call to seek justice. Jesus got upset at the Pharisees because they neglected the weightier matters of the law, which He defined as justice and the love of God . . . Isaiah 58 complains about the fact that while the people of God are praying and praying and praying, they are not doing anything about the injustice.

Should Christians just pray for justice and leave the rest to God?

That’s not what the Bible asks us to do. Instead, Hebrews 11:33 tells us that we are God’s hands for dispensing justice, and God uses us to “administer justice.”

We have to “walk our talk” and put our prayers into action.

God demands that we do everything in our power to act as “God’s hands” in bringing justice. And as Saint Augustine reminds us, “Charity is no substitute for justice withheld.”


The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one, He was appalled that there was no one to intervene. (Isaiah 59:15-16)

This is the only place in the Bible where the word “appalled” is used for the way God feels — in other words, the only thing which we know God is appalled by is if people are not doing justice.

There are hundreds of other references to justice in the Bible, including:

•Blessed are they who maintain justice . . . . (Psalm 106:3)
•This is what the LORD says: Maintain justice and do what is right . . . . (Isiah 56:1)
•This is what the LORD says: Do what is just and right. (Jeremiah 22:3,13-17)
•Follow justice and justice alone. (Deuteronomy 16:19, 20)
•For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice . . . . (Job 11:5,7)
•Learn to do right! Seek justice . . . . (Isaiah 1:17)
So if the powerful players in the giant banks broke the laws, they must be held to account.

Fraud and Manipulation of Money
The big banks have engaged in systemic, continuous ongoing criminal fraud.

Allowing the banks to commit crime with impunity is not what Jesus would do.  What would Jesus do?  Turn over the tables of the money-changers. (economists agree.)

Moreover, the giant banks manipulate currency through the use of schemes such as manipulating interest rates (gaming interest rates in different regions – Libor, Eurobor, etc. – can in turn drive their currencies up or down),  high frequency trading and artificially suppressing gold prices (which artificially inflates the value of fiat money) .

As Ron Paul notes, the Bible forbids altering the quality of money (which, at the time and place, was entirely in the form of coins):

Even the Bible is clear that altering the quality of money is an immoral act. We are instructed to follow the rules of “just weights and measures.” “You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin” (Leviticus 19:35-36). “Diverse weights are an abomination to the LORD, and a false balance is not good” (Proverbs 20:23). The general principle can be summed as “You shall not steal.”

Proverbs 11:1 also provides:

Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is His delight.

So to the extent that the giant banks have engaged in any dishonest acts or the manipulation of currencies, they are violating scripture.

Oppression of the Poor
Finally, the Bible condemns oppression of the poor for the benefit of the affluent:

He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want. (Proverbs 22:16)

To the extent that the giant banks have oppressed the poor to increase their riches, they are violating scripture.

Due to their looting, inequality is now worse in American than in  Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, most Latin American banana republics  … and ancient Rome.

It is certain that Senator Joseph McCarthy did much research on the Communist conspiracy. He came too close when he discovered British Israel and its Kingdom Message propaganda. The following quotes are from an article with the title: GEORGE WASHINGTON'S SURRENDER:

And indeed George Washington himself was a Mason, and he gave back through a false religion what he had won with his army.

James Eagan Holmes, the suspect in the mass killing in Aurora, Colo., was a counselor in the summer of 2008 at a residential camp for underprivileged children near Glendale, Calif.

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles confirmed that Holmes was a cabin counselor, responsible for 10 children at its Camp Max Straus for children ages 7 to 14 from Los Angeles.
Holmes was then a 20-year-old student at the University of California, Riverside, and neighbors have said he was active in the Presbyterian church that the family attended. The camp is nonsectarian.

A statement from the group said, "His role was to insure that these children had a wonderful camp experience by helping them learn confidence, self esteem and how to work in small teams to effect positive outcomes. These skills are learned through activities such as archery, horseback riding, swimming, art, sports and high ropes course."

Sex abuse victim recalls horrid encounter with Edward Savitz, associate of ex-Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky

"Greg Bucceroni says he remembers thinking Second Mile charity was going to save him from troubled times, but instead it led him down the road to being abused.

Greg Bucceroni says he doesn’t remember the specific location he was driven to in 1979, when he says he was a troubled teenager who had been in and out of at least one Philadelphia after-school youth service program. Bucceroni says he accompanied Edward Savitz, a well-known Philadelphia businessman, Democratic political booster and advocate for at-risk children, to a fund-raiser “somewhere past Harrisburg.”

The event was to raise money for the recently established Second Mile foundation, and Bucceroni says he remembers meeting the man everyone referred to as “The Coach,” Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, who founded Second Mile in 1977.
 Bucceroni says Savitz and Sandusky knew each other through The Second Mile and political fund-raising events.

“I remember thinking that the Second Mile is going to save me. I have a chance to get out of trouble,” says Bucceroni...

As a boy, he confided, he’d been victimized in one of Philadelphia’s most sordid affairs. He was not yet 13 in the mid-’70s when he met a businessman named Eddie Savitz in South Philly at a community meeting for troubled kids. Bucceroni was a troubled kid, and Savitz was supposed to be a mentor.

What Savitz really was was a pedophile. Over a decade, prosecutors contended in 1992, hundreds of young boys visited Savitz’s homes near Rittenhouse Square and were paid for sexual acts and for their soiled underwear.
Savitz, an expert actuary in a bad toupee, would log every encounter and photograph his young visitors, whom he plied with beer, cigarettes, and gifts.

He and a friend went to Savitz’s looking to make $20 so they could go to the movies. In Savitz’s foyer, nearly 20 boys were already waiting.
So Bucceroni and his buddy jumped the line and scrapped with other boys and with Savitz, whose wallet they emptied. The fight spilled onto the street. Police responded.

Bucceroni spent hours in the Ninth District police station, and eventually he told investigators what Savitz had been doing to him for years. Nothing happened. Savitz decided not to press charges, and Bucceroni was cut loose. He’s felt betrayed by law enforcement ever since.

After baring his soul, the voluble Bucceroni wrote a long e-mail, naming names and accusing various politicians of looking the other way for so many years.

During my stay in England in the 60’s, our history teacher stated that Germany started two wars. I raised my hand and said that during the same period, England was involved in 28 wars.

WWII began in 1939 when Adolf Hitler openly broke agreements with neighboring countries… WRONG.

That guarantee was supposed to secure ALL the Polish borders against ALL aggression, but in fact it was aimed at Germany only. When the Soviets invaded from the east, the guarantee had long been forgotten.

A general mobilisation was deemed at the time as a declaration of war. The Poles were so sure of their victory, that they had commissioned a huge painting of the Polish president marching through the streets of Berlin.
 It was found half finished when the Germans took over the presidential palace. At the same time, Polish communist irregulars were busy mass murdering the German population of the Corridor forcing Hitler to intervene to save his brethren.
The rest is history.

As to the concentration camps, which were in fact vast industrial estates, there have been so many lies, that it has become a religion where myths must be believed under threat of the Holy Inquisition.

The German war machine of WWII stands unequalled in modern Western civilisation for its efficiency (correct), destructiveness (wrong) and brutality (wrong). You must have seen too many Hollywood films and Action Heroes comic books. The German army was efficient, there is no doubt, but it was a disciplined army.

Rape was punished by firing squad for example, unlike the US and Russian armies where it was a national sport. After the landing in Normandy, US commanders were complaining that the French were sullen and did not want to be liberated, at least not the US way with waves of darkies raping the French women.

In four years of occupation of France there were less rapes by German soldiers than in ONE WEEK of Western Allied occupation of Germany. Paris, Rome, Brussels and all other Western towns were left untouched by the German army, while the British and US Air force razed French and German towns and the women and children sheltering them.
Germany was razed against all the tenets of the Geneva Convention regarding the treatment of civilians in war time. You can talk of brutality and destructiveness…!

Why did Germany descend into tyranny? IT DID NOT.
The people democratically elected the National Socialist Party to power. In three years, the unemployment rate passed from 50% to 0%.
Its workers had the best protective laws in Europe at the time, they were the first to enjoy paid holidays, canteens in factories, health check-ups, cruises for deserving workers. Those laws are still in existence in Holland, so they must have been good.

Germany grabbed the entire South American market, which did not please the greedy nations.

As to humility, compassion and charity, I am sure you find that in the British and the Americans. Ask the victims of the empire! They will tell you. In fact Christianity should be thankful to the Germans for, when corruption threatened to overcome the Church and destroy it, it was first Alaric the Goth who saved the faith when he invaded corrupt Rome and later Martin Luther and its Reformation.

Prussia was recognized as the most thoroughly militarized power in Europe and one of the most self sufficient and prosperous. Nothing wrong with that. Militarization brings discipline and discipline brings prosperity. One could say the same of China today, while the US is floundering in a sea of iniquity. Nothing can be built without discipline.
That is the reason for the success of the German nation.

As to blood and iron, I cannot quite understand your argument. How do you think the British Empire was built?
What do you think George Bush is doing in Iraq?
Why has the US over 700 bases all over the world? That is really the pot calling the kettle black.

Germans are good at everything they do, be it in peace or in war.
In fact Germany is the only country in Europe which lost territories over the centuries. Wherever there have been German settlers, those countries prospered.
In fact the largest population group in the US is that of German Americans. Those were the builders of America. The present Zionist rulers of America, on the other hand, will drag it to the ground.

Andy Garcia, Peter O Toole and Eva Longoria are the leading characters and were excellent.

Jews will hate this movie, buts its a winner and one of the most important films ever made.
I saw no Jews in the credits which is another reason they dont like it.

And from this despised Jewish Synagogue emanated a family of senators who had to thank the usurer for their wealth and their power.”

The grandfather of the mentioned Peter Leo, who played an important role in the investiture dispute, also had relations in his capacity as banker with the Papal residence and often helped out with money. He finally allowed himself to be baptised and received the name Benedictus Christianus.

Very soon his son Leo, who with baptism had received the name of Pope Leo IX, could ensure himself an important future, as was fitting for a rich, sharp-minded, bold and ambitious young man. He intermarried with Roman magnates who wished to marry their sons to rich Jewesses, or their daughters to the sons of baptised Jews.241 Gregorovius assures us that one of his sons, by name Peter Leo, who was the first to bear the surname Pierleoni, “had much influence in Rome and was always asked for advice.”

Besides his fortress alongside the Marcellus Theatre, which no doubt his father had built, he also controlled the Tiber Islands situated nearby. Urban II also made him into protector of Castel Sant’Angelo and died — to use the words of Gregorovius — in the house of his creditor and protector. His successors — so it continues — therefore made efforts to obtain the favour of the powerful Pierleoni. However, the people detested him because he was a usurer. The nobility hated him, and we can observe that he, in spite of his friendship with Pope Paschalis, did not ask the Prefecture for his son, because he was of “the new nobility.”

The friendship of the Popes, the glitter of kinship, wealth and power very soon wiped away the stain of his Jewish origin, and a short time later the Pierleoni became the most respected princely family in Rome. Leo and his successor bore the tide “Consul of Rome” — according to Gregorovius — “proudly and with masterly dignity, as if they were very ancient Patricians.” The famous historian adds further that the Pierleoni were Welfs, i.e. were of the Papal party against the German Emperors, for we must not forget that at that time, at least in appearance, they were devout Christians.

The following report by Gregorovius is also very revealing. From this we learn that Pierleoni was buried on 2nd June of the year 1128 with so many marks of honour as never before for a Consul in ancient Rome. Even if the tombs of the Popes of that time were destroyed, then the “Mausoleum of this fat Jew”, as Gregorovius calls him in this connection, although he was officially very Catholic, continues to stand. He reports that he “left behind many descendants. These sons of the Ghetto were so unbelievably rich, that one of his sons became Pope and another Patrician of Rome. One of his daughters married Roger of Sicily. This powerful lord had selected a Church post for his son Peter. Would one have been able to refuse him the violet cloak of a Cardinal? Was even the striving for the robes of the Pope to be dared for a son of the Pierleoni? Young Peter was sent to Paris, in order to complete his education. There he belonged without doubt to the students of Abelard. After ending of his study he became a monk of Cluny. This was doubtless the best recommendation for a candidate for the Papal dignity. . . Upon the wishes of his father, Paschalis summoned him back to Rome and named him Cardinal of San Cosmo and San Damian. . . Together with his brother he then accompanied Gelasio to France, returned with Calixtus and became Cardinal of Santa Maria in Trastevere, whence his family originated. Later he became Papal ambassador in France, where he convened Councils, and in England, where he was received by King Henry like a prince.”242

Holy Church had accumulated experience in the centuries long struggle against the “Synagogue of Satan”, and now correspondingly built up its defence. It passed anti-Jewish Church laws which, if followed, would have provided a defence. Unfortunately there were — as we have already seen — monarchs like Witiza, Ludwig the Pious and Peter the Cruel, who submitted to the influence of the Jews and caused the anti-Jewish Church Laws to become ineffective. Thus they protected the principal enemy of Christianity and allowed him to become deeply rooted in the government of the state, which had tragic consequences for the Church as also for the peoples who fell into the hands of the Jews.

These tragedies were, however, locally restricted, for while Witiza or Ludwig the Pious delivered their people to the enemy, the Papacy and other Christian states conducted further the struggle for defence of the Church and Catholicism in a zealous manner. This new situation in the 11th century for the Holy See itself was doubtless the prelude for a universal tragedy, not locally restricted, which was to extend to the whole of Christianity; for the enemy was on the point of conquering the chair of the Church, and this crisis had necessarily to draw the entire Christian world into its effect.

The bitter investiture dispute between Pope and Emperor and the problem of predominance were to offer Jewry the favourable opportunity of advancing to the Holy See, by their offering their valuable services and doubtless revealing themselves as pleasing. In this struggle between Popes and Emperors the Jews began to take decisive side with the party of the Welfs, i.e. for the Pope, who under the existing conditions could not reject this unexpected, seemingly valuable support — also in the economic respect, which was then urgently necessary for the Holy See.

In this trouble, the Church Laws, the results of centuries of experience, were at first forgotten. Through their gainful-seeking adherence to the Popes the Jews had penetrated into a domain which had hitherto been refused to them. The fratricidal struggles among the Christians themselves helped the “Synagogue of Satan” best of all to further their imperialist plans.

This they now attained by their supporting the Church power against the civic. In the 16th century, thus 450 years later, they wished to finally destroy Christianity, by their defending the Kings against the Papacy.

In this case they made themselves indispensable as bankers, and the Pope had to hold to them in order to solve his economic problems. The famous Rabbi, poet and historian, Louis Israel Newman writes in his extremely interesting work “Jewish Influence on the Reform Movements of Christianity” concerning the schism called forth by Cardinal Peter Pierleoni in Holy Church. He attributes to the latter a decisive importance for the development of the so-called Jewish heresy in the Middle Ages, in which Popes, Councils and Inquisition with justice see the origin of all heresies. For the Inquisition proved that the secret Jews, i.e. the Jewish heretics, were the organisers and spreaders of the remaining heretical movements.

The Rabbi quoted states that “the chief factor for the outbreak of Jewish heresy in the 12th century was the election of Anacletus II, one of the members of the Jewish Pierleoni family, as Pope in the year 1130.”243 This confession is extraordinarily important, because it comes from a well-known leader of Jewry and in addition corresponds exactly to reality.
For such a bold stroke must necessarily not only bring about the fall of Christianity, but also certainly very much encourage the Jews, who now believed that everything was attainable for them. The Rabbi mentioned confirms this view in another passage in his interesting work: “Additional proofs of how the rise of Anacletus had effect on the Jews, one can find in the numerous literature about the mystical, Jewish Pope, who in Hebrew legend is called Andreas or Eichanan. It is to be granted that the rise to power of the member of an ancient Jewish family has stirred the Jewish communities in Italy to activity and has led to a powerful confirmation of their own traditions and opinions.”244

Here the Rabbi mentioned already goes too far and uses one of the chief arguments which the Jews usually advance at their secret meetings in order to prove that their religion and not the Christian is the true one. They assert that the fact that they successfully rose in the hierarchy of the Church up to bishops and cardinals and even reached the throne of St. Peter through all kinds of infamy — even if the Popes in question are really anti-Popes — confirms their opinions and traditions or proves that they can assume that their religion is supported by God.

We will answer this sophistry with an eloquent argument: every human institution which cannot reckon with God’s support would already many centuries ago have been controlled through the devilish “Jewish Fifth Column” in the clergy. The latter believed, eight hundred and thirty two years ago, that they had finally conquered the Holy See and had Holy Church in its power. However, this devilish attempt failed then, just as is the case today, eight hundred years later, and that conquest is simply to be regarded as Utopian striving. If Holy Church could not count upon the support of God, it would already have been subjugated by the hellish mechanism of Jewry, which many with Justice hold to be the powerful tool of the Anti-Christ.

Our Lord Christ called Jewry the “Synagogue of Satan”, and described the Jews as sons of the Devil. Not only on account of their wickedness, but apparently also on account of the extraordinary power which the Devil lends them. Not in vain are the clergy who support the Jews to the harm of the faith described by the already mentioned Holy Council of Toledo as followers of the anti-Christ, and the Jews were called “Ministers of the anti-Christ” by famous Fathers and Saints of the Church.

This many times supernatural seeming capacity to do evil goes back to the dragon, exactly as John has prophesied in his “Apocalypse”. “The Beast and the dragon will be overcome after passing temporary dominance.” So was it resolved by God and Saint John prophesies this in the 13th Chapter of the Apocalypse:

“1. And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten diadems, and upon his heads names of blasphemy. 2. ... And the dragon gave him his own strength, and great power. 3. ... And all the earth was in admiration after the beast. 4. And they adored the dragon, which gave power to the beast: and they adored the beast, saying: Who is like to the beast? and who shall be able to fight with him? 5. And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things, and blasphemies... 7. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them. And power was given him over every tribe, and people, and tongue, and nation.”245

The power, which the dragon lent to the beast, agrees in astonishing manner with the capacity of the “Synagogue of Satan.” In addition the latter’s power over the Good — as it is written — is transitory. It was also predicted that the Beast, especially in the Communist lands, would utter blasphemies. The interpretation of various Fathers of the Church, theologians and highly-regarded Catholics at different times who equated post-Biblical Jewry with the Beast of the “Apocalypse” seems thus fitting. Reality concords in such astonishing extent with the prophesy, that no doubt seems any more possible.

However, God has also prophesied that the Beast and the dragon, after their temporary victory, will be finally conquered and cast into the fire. This is stated in the 20th Chapter of the Apocalypse:

“9. And there came down fire from God out of heaven, and devoured them; and the devil, who seduced them, was cast into the pool of fire and brimstone, where both the beast 10. And the false prophet shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

In the Prophecy yet a second Beast is mentioned, whose characteristics concord in astonishing manner with the “Jewish Fifth Column” in the clergy. It looks outwardly like a lamb, however acts like a dragon. It is its task to support the first Beast, as it is the task of the “Fifth Column” to make easier the triumph of the “Synagogue of Satan”. In the 13th Chapter it is stated:

“11. And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns, like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon. 12. And he executed all the power of the former beast in his sight; and he caused the earth, and them that dwell therein, to adore the first beast, whose wound to death was healed. 14. And he seduced them that dwell on the earth, for the signs, which were given him to do in the sight of the beast, saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make the image of the beast, which had the wound by the sword, and lived.”.246

It is really astonishing that Jewry, which was fatally wounded through the Inquisition and the activity of the good, has survived and recovered from its wounds. On the other hand, it is the task of the Beast with the exterior of a lamb to attain that men admire the first Beast. This agrees again astonishingly well with the work of the clergy of the “Fifth Column” which is directed so that believers almost worship the Jews. They pretend to be descended from our Lord Jesus. The latter, however, called them Sons of the Devil, and they are the principal enemy of Holy Church.

One must take into consideration that they who follow the Beast are those “whose names are not written in the book of life” (Apocalypse 17:8) and “whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the pool of fire” (Apocalypse 20.15).

After this parenthesis, which was necessary, in order to prevent that the tragedy analysed here led the timid astray, we continue in synthetic form in the relation of the developing tense drama.

One saw completely clearly that Cardinal Pierleoni and his supporters made all preparations in order to obtain the Papal dignity, if the ruling Pope died. The cardinals and better orientated clergy of the Holy Church were directly in an uproar, for they were convinced that Pierleoni secretly adhered to Judaism and that, if he ascended the throne of St. Peter, Holy Church, its centuries old enemy, would be delivered to the Synagogue. The accusations against the cardinals mentioned were among others the following: 1. Under the mask of an apparently zealous, honest Christianity he paid homage in secret to Judaism. He concealed this fact behind pious eloquent sermons — for Pierleoni was one of the best preachers of his time. In addition he cloaked his Jewish belief with good works and his impressive work as director and organiser of Church affairs, as Ambassador of the Pope in France, where he summoned Councils, and also as Cardinal. 2. Besides his private property, he collected other riches, which he had robbed from the Church, in cooperation with other Jews. This money was later used for the purpose of bribing the Cardinals and, through intrigues and influence, of making his adherents bishops and cardinals. He had even bought dearly the votes of several Cardinals for the next Papal election.

In the face of this deadly danger, there formed under the leadership of the chancellor Aimerico and Giovani de Cremas a strong anti-Jewish opposition against Pierleoni, in the Holy Collegium of Cardinals. Cardinal Pierleoni was however clearly superior in this bitter struggle, since he was supported by the nobility, which was strongly permeated with Jews and also by the people whom the Jewish Cardinal had brought onto his side with gold and force. In addition he had been cautious enough to control the army.

Since Pierleoni knew that his opponents among the Cardinals accused him of practising the Jewish religion, he sought to quash these accusations through his pious, blamelessly orthodox sermons, his outstanding activity in the most different domains and even — so it is stated — through the new construction of Churches, to punish lies. As a result he deceived clergy and laity and convinced them that the accusations against him were slanders, and Cardinal Pierleoni was in reality an honest Catholic, who was unjustly attacked by envious opponents of the Jews — who wished to see Jews where none were.247

Pope Honorius II was already suffering when he was exposed to the strong counter-pressure of the two groups. When the anti-Jewish Cardinals recognised that the Jew-friendly block of Pierleoni’s gained more and more in strength and had the voices of most Cardinals in their pocket, they applied cunning. Upon the urging of the energetic, resolute French Cardinal Aimerico, the Chancellor of the Roman Church, the fatally sick Pope was suddenly conveyed to a monastery, San Gregorio, situated on a mountain. In the midst of the disputes between the two parties, they agreed with Honorius that the new Pope should be chosen by eight Cardinals, who were apparently appointed by the ruling Pope. Pierleoni was also among them. These Cardinals betook themselves to the deathbed of the Pope and awaited the end, in order to be able to choose the new Pope.

Honorius died — as if ordained by divine providence — just at the time when Pierleoni and Jonathan were not present. The six other Cardinals rapidly buried the dead Pope and then in San Gregorio secretly elected the virtuous anti-Jewish Cardinal of Sant’Angelo, Gregorio Papareschi, as Pope, who took on the name Innocent II.

When Pierleoni, who already almost saw himself as Pope, learned that Papareschi, one of his rivals, was already chosen as Pope, he did not, however, regard himself as defeated, but — according to Gregorovius — “went, supported by his brothers Leo, Giordano, Roger, Uguccione and numerous clients, to St. Peter’s and forced an entry. He had himself dedicated as Pope by Pietro di Porto, stormed the Lateran, placed himself on the Papal throne in this Church, went to Santa Maria Mayor and confiscated the Church treasure. In the whole of Rome civil war raged, and thousands greedily stretched their hands out for the gold which Anacletus scattered.”248

Without doubt, Pierleoni, as far as Simony was concerned, was a worthy pupil of his predecessor, the likewise Jewish Simon Magus, and exceeded him where possible on grounds of the centuries long experience which the Jews had gathered. With the most diverse means, he attained that more than two thirds of the Cardinals chose him as Pope, and took on the name Anacletus II. This obese Jew rapidly made himself master of the situation and all the world applauded him, while Innocent II, with his loyal Cardinals, had to flee and withdrew into the Palladium, where the Frangipani protected him. The troops of Pierleoni attempted in vain to storm the Palladium. But since Innocent — as Gregorovius remarks — “foresaw how the gold of the enemy would penetrate through the walls, he fled in April or May to the Trastevere, where he kept himself concealed in the tower of his family. Anacletus in the meantime calmly celebrated the Easter Festival, excommunicated his opponent and replaced the Cardinals, who were opposed to him, through others. Through the fall of the Frangipani, Innocent was without protection, and he was left no other choice than to flee.”249

Seen with human eyes, everything was lost for Holy Church. The triumph of the “Jewish Fifth Column” in the clergy seemed final, and its centuries long dream of the conquest of the Papacy had finally become a reality. Christianity on the other hand had apparently lost the struggle against the Synagogue.

In the “Jewish Spanish Encyclopaedia”, Limborch is quoted as follows: “In Amsterdam and elsewhere there are Augustinians, Franciscans, Jesuits and Dominicans, who are Jews.”337

As we have been able to discern, the secret Jews usually strive for all positions of the secular clergy and the monastic orders. In reference to the latter we must, however, still mention their preference to attach themselves to and control those orders which are most dangerous of all for their infamous plans, since they could make them ineffective through their control. When, in the 13th century, the Templar Order signified a great danger for them, they entered it and finally in all quietness conquered the highest positions, brought it away from its goals and used it against the Church and the Christian monarchies.
This was a real catastrophe, and the Papacy and the Christian monarchy rapidly intervened, dissolved the Order and had the Grand- Master executed, in order to preserve Christianity from a catastrophe. In the Middle Ages they preferred the infiltration into the Orders, who worked out the plans for the Papal Inquisition, in order to make the latter’s struggle harmless. Since, however, the Franciscans and Dominicans exactly knew the Jewish problem and were masters in the struggle against Jewry, they were nevertheless able, as we have seen, to assert themselves.

In modern times the meritorious Society of Jesus has fought most of all against the Jewish revolutionary enterprises, freemasonry, spiritualism, theosophy, Communism, etc. This is to be attributed to the fact that many of their members are not subjected to such strict rules and prayers and have the necessary time to devote themselves to political-social struggles.

Naturally the Jews, since the founding of the holy work of St. Ignatius, have attempted to introduce themselves there in masses.

It is known that the Jesuit Order at first played a decisive role with the counter-Reforms, which made it possible that Poland and other states were won back for Catholicism. Although very soon the new Christians flooded over this land and gained control of the key positions, the true Jesuits still fought heroically against the Jewish threat and attained that a Statute was approved, which, as also with another Order, refused admittance into the Society of Jesus to descendants of Jews.
 Even today, there is a statute which forbids admittance into the Order to Jews up to the third generation. However, it is no longer heeded, for if today one investigates the family tree of the false secret Jewish Catholics of our days, it can be to the greatest part proved that they are descended since ten or more generations from Christians, which is to be traced back to the false conversions of their forefathers before this point in time.

Until now we have seen by means of recognised Jewish or Catholic sources that the presence of traitorous Jesuits, who secretly practised the Jewish religion, was at various times a frequent occurrence. In the following we will now, even if only summarised on account of the expediency of this work, investigate this regrettable occurrence.

Among other things, the Jewish Jesuits have attempted with intrigues to bring away from its goal the meritorious Society which was founded for the defence of the Church, and to occasion it to exactly the opposite, i.e., instead of combating the enemies of the Church to fight against its best defenders. Naturally the secret Jews, who pretended to be Jesuits, first of all set the Society against the sole bulwark of the Church, the Inquisition. This we will prove by means of Jewish sources, who enjoy the greatest regard in the modern synagogue.

In the “Jewish-Spanish Encyclopaedia”, it is stated under the word “Bahia” concerning the false Jewish Christians in Brazil: “It is highly probable that in Bahia, since its foundation, there were secret Jews, for the Portuguese needed settlers for their possessions in the Western Hemisphere and made use of the suspect new Christians. Many other Jews emigrated to Brazil in order to escape the Inquisition . . .
Also in the trade with African slaves they played an important role, since it became necessary to introduce workers more capable of resisting the climate for the heavy plantation labour than the natives. Besides Jewish planters, manufacturers and merchants there were also some physicians. During the first centuries of the Portuguese settlement, the Jews lived relatively free in Bahia in spite of the activity of the agents of the Holy Office in Lisbon. The authorities represented economic and fiscal interests for the capital and were tolerant in living together with the Jesuits, who were then against the Inquisition. The Jews secretly held religious services and maintained rabbis.”338

In this case the organisation of St. Ignatius, founded for the defence of the Church against her enemies, was led astray and occasioned to be exactly the opposite, to oppose the Inquisition, which represented the principal defence of the Church and to tolerate its enemies. Here also we see once again the participation of the Jews in the hated slave trade, which in the preceding centuries was one of their most productive occupations.

The present day false Jewish Christians in Brazil, whose forefathers captured the unfortunate negroes, who really deserved a better fate, like wild animals or sold them like cattle, proceed in a really shameless way when today they lead the Socialist and Communist movements in Brazil and give themselves out to be liberators of the negroes or Mulattos of the population, when they brought their forefathers in chains and made them into slaves.
 The Brazilian negroes and mulattos must open their eyes and recognise that the same evil powers who condemned their forefathers to hated servitude, now lead them towards the worst slavery of all, Communism, and deceive them with enticing means of liberating them and creating a paradise for them. They did the same with their forefathers who were cheated by the secret Jewish slave dealers and believed their lying promises in the hope of being led to a better life and one fine day awoke with the chains of slaver when it was too late to free themselves.

Let us select one of the many cases in Brazil, for to this land we have hitherto devoted little space in this work. This terrible struggle took place a hundred years later than that which we have just investigated.
The details we take from another authorised source of Jewry. The most renowned historian of the present, Cecil Roth, writes in his “History of the Marranos” concerning the suppression of the secret Jews in Brazil by the Holy Office and continues as follows: “In this time a ray of hope fell through the clouds. An Interregnum in the office of the Grand Inquisitor from 1653 to 1673 admittedly did not influence the activity of the Court, but diminished certainly its regard. Meanwhile Antonio Vieira, the great Jesuit, who had earned the surname Apostle of Brazil, had taken over the defence of the new Christians in Brazil. He pressed Juan IV to abolish the disappropriations and to erase the still existing differences between old and new Christians. Through his free expression of opinion he engaged upon a feud with the Holy Office.

After three years of imprisonment (1665-67), his writings and he himself were formally condemned. Through his experience with the terror of the Holy Office his sympathy increased with the oppressed. He went to Rome where, in the citadel of Christianity, he attacked the Portuguese Inquisition as a godless court not influenced by devoutness, which condemned the innocent just as often as the guilty and was the enemy of the best Christian interests. The Society of Jesus – afflicted on account of the treatment of one of its most regarded members – supported his cause. Encouraged through the change of events, the new Christians turned to the throne on account of definite reforms, including the free pardon of those prosecuted and the replacement of the Inquisitorial procedure through a more humane form customary in Rome.
For such modest concessions they offered to pay 20,000 Cruceiros yearly, to send 4000 soldiers to India and each year 1200 as reinforcement and a further 300 in event of war. The Inquisition protested energetically, but the application was supported by many great men of the kingdom and even by the faculty of the University of Coimbra (which, as we have seen, was flooded with secret Jews) and personally supported by the Archbishop of Lisbon. It was thus approved and sent on to Rome for final decision.

There Francisco de Azevedo, the representative of the new Christians, together with Vieira, prepared a sharp denunciation, and allowed it to be seen that the Portuguese Inquisition was only a means of repression, enriched itself through extortion and was out for the last blood of every new Christian. The latter – so they asserted — were all zealous Catholics, who, because they denied, i.e., denied Judaism, were condemned or were pardoned on grounds of a false confession. After a long struggle, the new Christians won. On 3rd October 1674, Pope Clement X took over control of the activity of the Portuguese courts and ordered that the most important cases should be transferred to Rome.
 Since the Inquisitors refused to cooperate on the following investigation, under the pretence that thereby the secrets of the trial could come to light, an interdict was uttered against them and on 27th May 1679 they were finally deposed from their offices. The easing was not of long duration, for on 22nd August 1681 the deposing was already annulled, after a couple of reforms of no further importance had been resolved.
The resumption of activity in Portugal was celebrated with triumphant processions and carnival lights. In January of the following year, the first burnings of heretics took place again in Coimbra. Upon this followed a few months later the burning of four persons in Lisbon on, 10th May, three of them alive, because they did not repent. To the latter belonged a lawyer of Aviz, Miguel Henriquez (alias Isaak) da Fonseca, who had himself called Misael Hisneque de Fungoca, Antonio de Aguiar (alias Aaron Cohen Faya) from Lamunilla in the neighbourhood of Madrid, and Gaspar (alias Abraham) Lopez Pereira, who were all lamented by the literates in Amsterdam as martyrs.”

The renowned Jewish historian reports further concerning the burnings of several secret Jews as heretics, and the Jewish researcher describes the high point of this terrible struggle as follows: “This resumption was given expression in September 1683 through a command that all persons who had been pardoned on account of membership to Jewry, must leave the kingdom in the impossibly short period of two months. They should in addition leave behind their children who were younger than seven years until they proved that they lived in their new home as true Christians. The rapid increase of the communities on grounds of the dispersion in that time was partly to be traced back to this measure, which first became invalid when the war with France broke out in 1704.”339

Later this and other renowned Jewish historians assert that, despite everything, secret Jewry in Portugal and Brazil survived, i.e., the repression through the Inquisition was able to be avoided. The case particularly investigated by us is an important example of how the Synagogue, against the intentions of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the other meritorious founders of this order, has utilised the Society of Jesus in order to destroy the defence of Holy Church. It also makes the serious fact clear to us that a bad Jesuit or a group of wicked Jesuits let themselves into an unjust struggle against the real defenders of the Church and later drew in the entire Order by that they utilised the noble spirit of solidarity of the meritorious society towards non-members. With all respect and high regard for the Jesuit Order, we allow ourselves to give warning of such manoeuvres which frequently occur in this disastrous time.

In addition the special interest of the “Synagogue of Satan” to introduce itself into the Society of Jesus and to control it, is proved in an official work of freemasonry, which we have just received from one of those groups of devout Latin American clergy, who, out of the noble striving to save Holy Church, provided us with the extensive South American Bibliography, which is so inestimably valuable and useful for the rapid preparation of this work and to spare us expensive travels and the search for Bibliography, which would have considerably delayed the publication of this work. We speak of the “Abbreviated Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Freemasonry”, which was written by the freemason of the 33rd degree (grade), who under the name Pascalis or Pascualis writes expressly:

“Pascalis or Pascualis (Martinez) Jewish theosopher and renowned enlightener, leader of the sects of the Martinists . . . founded a school of the Cabbalists, made in 1754 talk about himself for the first time as founder of a philosophic-spiritual, Jesuitical rite, which he described as a rite of the chosen Coons . . . It is revealed from his writings that the doctrine of Martinez Pascalis goes back to the Cabbalist tradition of the Jews.”340

In connection with this rite, it is stated in the freemasonic dictionary under the term “Elegidos Coons”, word for word: “Chosen Coons. Description for a philosophic-spiritual, ultra-Jesuitical rite, which was founded in 1754 by a Portuguese Jew named Martinez Pascalis. Coons means priest in Jewish.”341

Concerning the repeated attempts of Jewish freemasonry to introduce itself into the Society and to control it, another source gives us information about this freemasonic rite created for this gloomy purpose.
It is stated in the official encyclopaedic dictionary of freemasonry under the term “estricta observancia” (strict observance): “Estricta observancia. Description for a rite which had split up into many others and represents the most perfect expression of the Templar system in freemasonry. This rite was the third freemasonic innovation of the Jesuits, who stirred up the hope among their supporters to come into the possession of the riches of the old Templars. The chronological history of the Grandmasters corresponds to that of the generals of the Society of Jesus.
The rite of strict observance was finally set up in Germany, between 1760 and 1763, by the brother Karl Gathels, the Baron of Hund, who to the six grades of the Order at first determined added yet another. The rite was organised in the following seven degrees: pupil, companion, master, Scottish master, novice, Templar in three classes: Eques, Socius and Armiger, and Eques professus.”342

The fact that, since his grounding in this Rite which was intended to control the Jesuits, a new Grandmaster was also chosen if a new general of the Order was appointed, shows the tenacity of Jewry and its satellites, freemasonry, to introduce themselves in the Holy Work of St. Ignatius and to control it.

On the other side is the special wish to make this freemasonic rite in connection with the Templar Order very significant. We must not forget that the Templar Order was founded in order to defend Holy Church against its enemies.
The “Synagogue of Satan”, however, gained entry into it until the secret Jews occupied the leading positions, then brought it away from its original aims and made it become a serious danger for the Church and the Christian peoples. One must also bear in mind that, in the prosecutions against the Templars, the effort was revealed to skilfully conceal themselves, for, although the Christian Order was watched over by the enemy, it remained in its official outward realms bound to Holy Church, even if also in secret circles the easier controlled Catholic Templars were seduced and their religious faith gradually taken from them, until they had finally become secret satellites of Jewry. The infiltrations of the Synagogue and of Freemasonry into the Society of Jesus followed visibly the same aims, for this freemasonic-Templar rite of the Jesuits wishes apparently to make the Society of Jesus into a new Templar Order with retention of its outer official structure is then finally secretly ruled by the enemies of the Church and then used in order to destroy its defenders and with the purpose of making easier the victory of Jewry and its satellites, freemasonry and Communism. From the valuable Freemasonic document, which we study, it is revealed that even other schismatic rites of Freemasonry, which were for this reason called mixed rites or also controlled by the Jewish Cabbalists, were organised in order to influence the meritorious work of St. Ignatius of Loyola and to control it.
 Accordingly it is stated under the expression “Clerigos de la estricta observancia”: “Clergy of the strict rule of the Order. Title for a Jesuitical mixed rite, which was formed by Cabbalists, Alchemists, Black Magicians and members of the Society of Jesus.”343

This is apparently a Freemasonic rite, which emanated from a schism of the “Rite of the strict rule of the Order”, which, as is stated in the dictionary of Freemasonry mentioned, was subjected to schisms. Both rites are of Jewish origin and we must allude to the fact that in Judaism frequently inner dissensions occur, which are reflected in the schisms which every Jewish party calls forth in the Freemasonic organisation, which at first is ruled by the Jewish cell, but then later passes through its own split.
It is not further remarkable that to this Freemasonic rite, which is intended to control the Jesuits, Black Magicians belonged, for we have indeed already proved that the Jews were the most principal spreaders of the Lucifer cult and of Black Magic. On the other side, it was revealed, through many prosecutions of Templars, that in secret circles of the Order the devil was worshipped, even if the open outward structure of the Templar order appeared additionally so Catholic and orthodox as in good old times.

The hair-raising facts, which we describe and have taken from official works of Judaism and of Freemasonry, allow us to clearly recognise the devilish stiff-neckedness of the “Synagogue of Satan” in infiltrating itself into and controlling the Society of Jesus, which in modern times was for it the most combative, most dangerous Catholic Order, in order then to use it against Holy Church, just as it did circa seven centuries ago with the Templar Order.

But what interests the Catholic world certainly most of all is how far Jewry could realise its intentions to make the Society of Jesus into a satellite. Since today, however, there are no Holy Inquisitional Courts or a like institution which could discover this with effective methods, no balanced investigation in this sense is also possible to us. However, certain facts allow it to be concluded that a traceable process of Judaisation is in progress in some domains of the Order of St Ignatius.
There are Jesuits who, to the harm of Christianity, defend the Jews and the “Synagogue of Satan.” Others favour with any disposable means the enemies of the Church instead of combating them, while on the other side they attack cruelly and in an anti-Christian way the defenders of the Church, especially those who successfully and tenaciously fight against Jewry, Freemasonry and Communism. Others again further the victory of the Freemasonic and Communist revolution, perform tenacious disruptive work against the few Catholic governments which there are in the world.

In addition – and that is the most remarkable thing in the affair – the good fighting Jesuits who fortunately still exist in great number, when they defend the Church against her enemies, especially against Jewry, Freemasonry or Communism, are in an inexplicable way and manner opposed hostilely in the Order by other Jesuits themselves, who stir up rancour against them for so long until they make them harmless or can attain that the superiors forbid them to fight further against the enemies of the Church.
In other cases we see well-regarded very intelligent Jesuits, who on grounds of their great capacities could do much good for the Society and Christianity, set back and practically eliminated. As a result, the Order and Holy Church loses the opportunity of using these so valuable capable men. All this gives the impression as if the enemy already sat deeply in the meritorious work of St Ignatius.

But we are convinced of the fact that the Jesuit Order can still save itself from the cunning of its enemies, for the majority of members are honest upright Catholics who entered the Order in order to serve God. If the members, who secretly belong to the “Jewish Fifth Column” and their Freemasonic accomplices were able at times to make progress with their attempts to conquer this fortress, it was only because they proceeded highly secretly and always with the most skilled deceit. We believe honestly, through warnings and the unmasking of the enemy, that the honest Jesuits will, with our modest aid, prosper, so that they can save the Society from a possible catastrophe.
As the reader will have remarked, we quote in these last chapters details from official sources of Jewry and of Freemasonry, who cannot be accused of any Antisemitism or fanatical clericalism. Whoever wishes to carry out further research in this sphere as to what methods the secret Jewish monks and nuns have applied at various times, in order to exert their practices in the strict life of the cloisters, can deepen their knowledge in the archives of the Holy Inquisition, which we mention in another part of this work.

In the Archive of Torre do Tombo in Portugal and that of Simancas in Spain, in that previously mentioned in Italy, France and other lands of the world, we find the handwritten original records of countess trials of the Holy Office against Jesuits, Dominicans, Franciscans and monks and nuns of various other religious Orders — among them even abbots and dignitaries of the Order — who were led over and confessed to have secretly paid homage to Judaism in the peaceful life of the most strict cloisters. All this would appear unbelievable to us if, in addition to those admissions from the Jewish and Freemasonic side, the existence of thousands of Inquisitional prosecutions were not able to be quoted which with many details confirm this terrible fact. From these trials are revealed the revolutionary activity and the terrible secret blasphemies of those monks and nuns, who apparently lived with holy dedication according to the rules of their religious Order, against Our Lord Jesus and the Virgin Mary.

In conclusion to this chapter it seems to us necessary to draw the attention of the organisers of patriotic organisations and political parties to the danger that the Jews and Freemasons join themselves to these organisations, finally control or ruin them. Many simpletons believe that the infiltration by such enemies is not important. Others, no less naive, are of the opinion that it would be easy to hold up this invasion. Those who with regrettable naiveté believe the one or other, must reflect that the Catholic clergy and the religious Orders are from diverse reasons far more rigid institutions, into which it is more difficult to penetrate than into simple political parties or associations. If it was successful for Jewry, even at the time of the Inquisition, which particularly wished to prevent this by all means, to infiltrate into the Church institutions, the Synagogue will be able to influence political or social associations even more easily, since they demand neither vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, nor strict monastic life, absolute discipline and all the rest, which in the religious orders have nevertheless held up the deadly infiltration of the enemies of mankind, even if it could not prevent it entirely.

The leaders of political movements should thus prevent by all attainable means that the Jews, Freemasons or Communists enter into their ranks, for, if they are not successful in this, the enemy can bring these movements to ruin. We can make the assurance that the possibility of the triumph of a political Christian or pagan association is to the greatest part dependent upon whether it triumphs before the Jewish, Freemasonic or Communist infiltration can prevent this. The necessity to eliminate the Christians of Jewish origin rests upon the fact, proven in the course of centuries, that by far the majority of mock-Christians, are Jews in secret, as we have proved by means of indisputably credible documents and sources in this work.

We have here to do with a sad political truth, which has been proved to sufficiency, and not with racial prejudices, which we as Christians in no way foster, and as followers of Jesus Christ all men are for us equal before God and the law. It is one thing, however, to have no racial prejudices, but quite another to allow oneself to be surprised knowingly by the Fifth Column of an enemy who wishes to enslave and destroy us. If we wish to defend ourselves against such an invasion, we are simply making use of our natural right to justified self-defence.

Red Army was committing some of the worst war-crimes in history.

Red Army soldiers dont believe in individual liaisons with German women, wrote the playwright Zakhar Agranenko in his diary when serving as an officer of marine infantry in East Prussia.
Nine, ten, twelve men at a time  they rape them on a collective basis.? Beria and Stalin, back in Moscow, knew perfectly well what was going on from a number of detailed reports. One stated that many Germans declare that all German women in East Prussia who stayed behind were raped by Red Army soldiers.
Numerous examples of gang rape were given girls under 18 and old women included?.

Natalya Gesse, a close friend of the scientist Andrei Sakharov, had observed the Red Army in action in 1945 as a Soviet war correspondent. The Russian soldiers were raping every German female from eight to eighty, she recounted later. It was an army of rapists.? Drink of every variety, including dangerous chemicals seized from laboratories and workshops, was a major factor in the violence.
 It seems as if Soviet soldiers needed alcoholic courage to attack a woman. But then, all too often, they drank too much and, unable to complete the act, used the bottle instead with appalling effect. A number of victims were mutilated obscenely.

The novelist Vasily Grossman, a war correspondent attached to the invading Red Army, soon discovered that rape victims were not just Germans. Polish women also suffered. So did young Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian women who had been sent to Germany by the Wehrmacht for slave labour. Liberated Soviet girls quite often complain that our soldiers rape them,? he noted. ?One girl said to me in tears: He was an old man, older than my father. The rape of Soviet women and girls seriously undermines Russian attempts to justify Red Army behaviour on the grounds of revenge for German brutality in the Soviet Union.

In Dahlem, Soviet officers visited Sister Kunigunde, the mother superior of Haus Dahlem, a maternity clinic and orphanage. The officers and their men behaved impeccably. In fact, the officers even warned Sister Kunigunde about the second-line troops following on behind. Their prediction proved entirely accurate. Nuns, young girls, old women, pregnant women and mothers who had just given birth were all raped without pity.

Older Berliners still remember the screams every night. It was impossible not to hear them because all the windows had been blown in. Estimates of rape victims from the city?s two main hospitals ranged from 95,000 to 130,000. One doctor deduced that out of approximately 100,000 women raped in the city, some 10,000 died as a result, mostly from suicide. The death rate was thought to have been much higher among the 1.4 million estimated victims in East Prussia, Pomerania and Silesia.

Altogether at least two million German women are thought to have been raped, and a substantial minority, if not a majority, appear to have suffered multiple rape.

If anyone attempted to defend a woman against a Soviet attacker it was either a father trying to defend a daughter or a young son trying to protect his mother. The 13-year old Dieter Sahl, neighbours wrote in a letter shortly after the event, threw himself with flailing fists at a Russian who was raping his mother in front of him. He did not succeed in anything except getting himself shot. (They raped every German female from eight to 80, The Guardian, 1st May, 2002)

1. Carlos Mustelier Sand Your Ground Case -Florida
November 2010

Thomas Baker was on his normal early morning jog in Town ‘n’ Country, Florida, when he got into a fight with two hooded teens, ages 18 and 16. Carlos Mustelier, the 18-year-old, punched Baker, according to police reports.
That’s when Baker pulled out his .45-caliber semiautomatic, for which he had a permit, and shot at Mustelier eight times. Mustelier died.
The 16-year-old was not hurt. Neither teen was armed. Neither had a criminal record. Baker and the teens were in fact neighbors.
Because of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, prosecutors declined to charge Baker in the killing. “It was a terrible thing,” Baker told the Tampa Bay Times. “He was a good kid,” a friend said of Mustelier, who was “spoiled” by his mother.

2. Christopher Cote Stand Your Grond Case -Florida
September 2006

Christopher Cote, 19, and his family had just moved to The Acreage community, near West Palm Beach. According to court details published in the Palm Beach Post, Cote had been drinking beer and was out walking his dog at 3 a.m. when he had an argument with 63-year-old Jose Tapanes.
Cote returned home and asked his family to call police. They said they didn’t want any trouble with the new neighbors. Cote returned to Tapanes’s home and knocked—or by Tapanes’s account, banged—on his front door.
Tapanes opened the door and shot Cote once in the chest with a shotgun. Cote fell back onto Tapanes’s front lawn. Tapanes then shot Cote at point-blank range in the stomach, killing the teenager. Cote was unarmed. Tapanes claimed that before the shooting Cote was being confrontational. Tapanes was acquitted of manslaughter in July 2011. “I think the jury said it all,” he said after the verdict.

3. Greyston Garcia, 2012 (Florida)
- Miami Dade Circuit Judge Beth Bloom cleared Garcia under Stand Your Ground, after Garcia (nee Spick)  chased a Miami man, Pedro Roteta, for two blocks, after Roteta stole his car radio.
The judge ruled the alleged thief swung a bag of stolen radios, which was enough of a threat for Garcia to stab him to death. Garcia didn't call 911.

Instead he hid the knife and sold the radios, even the ones that weren't his.

4. Tallahassee gun fight, 2008 (Florida)
- A gunfight between rival gang members left 15-year-old Michael Jackson dead in a hail of bullets.
 However, the judge, Terry Lewis, dismissed charges against the two surviving gang members under Stand Your Ground, saying "the law would appear to allow a person to seek out an individual, provoke him into a confrontation, then shoot and kill him if he goes for his gun. ...
It's very much like the wild west."

5.  Shooting caught on 911 tape, 2007 (Texas)  
- Perhaps the eeriest "Stand Your Ground" case is that of "Joe Horn, the 62-year-old Pasadena, Texas man(white) who called 911 to warn them that he was about to shoot two alleged burglars (Black hispanics).
Though the dispatcher tried to talk him out of it, Horn (center) shot undocumented immigrants Hernando Riasccos Torres, 38 (left), and Diego Ortiz, 30 (right, both in the back, while the tape rolled. A grand jury cleared Horn.

2012 / The Nuking Of The Carolinas 1958/61

'In 1958, America accidentally dropped a nuclear weapon on two little girls’ playhouse
For certain rural residents of the Carolinas during the Cold War, apocalyptic anxiety hit disturbingly close to home. In 1958 and 1961, the American Air Force lost nuclear weapons over the skies of South and North Carolina, respectively, raining potential apocalypse on the folks below.

In both incidents, complete catastrophe was avoided thanks to that ever-potent combination of foresight and unmitigated dumb luck. And in the former incident, the bomb fell square on some unsuspecting children's playhouse.

The first accident occurred over Florence, South Carolina on March 11, 1958, slightly after 4:30 in the afternoon. An American B-47E bomber was flying from Savannah, Georgia to Bruntingthorpe Air Base in England for exercises — onboard was a Mark 6 30-kiloton fission bomb.

After experiencing some mid-flight difficulties with the bomb's locking pin, Captain Bruce Kulka entered the aircraft's bomb bay to inspect the device. It was at this very moment that the dark slapstick inadvertently started. Recounts American Heritage magazine of the Kubrickian scene that unfolded next:

The task was doomed from the start; later testimony indicated Kulka had no idea where to find the locking pin in the large and complicated bomb-release mechanism. After a tense 12 minutes searching for the pin, the bombardier decided, correctly, that it must be high up in the bomb bay and invisible because of the curvature of the bomb. A short man, he jumped to pull himself up to get a look at where he thought the locking pin should be. Unfortunately, he evidently chose the emergency bomb-release mechanism for his handhold. The weapon dropped from its shackle and rested momentarily on the closed bomb-bay doors with Captain Kulka splayed across it in the manner of Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove.
Kulka grabbed at a bag that had providentially been stored in the bomb bay, while the more-than-three-ton bomb broke open the bomb-bay doors and fell earthward. The bag Kulka was holding came loose, and he found himself sliding after the bomb without his parachute. He managed to grab something-he wasn't sure what-and haul himself to safety. Moments later the plane was rocked by the shock wave of the blast when the bomb hit the ground.

Full sizeAnd Kulka's reaction? "Oh...I dropped the damn thing."
Fortunately, the bomb's nuclear core had been stored elsewhere on the aircraft. Unfortunately, the loose 7,600-pound bomb — which contained concussion-activated explosives — fell adjacent to 37-year-old Walter Gregg's home in Mars Bluff, South Carolina, promptly transforming his vegetable garden and his daughters' playhouse into a 70-foot-wide, 35-foot-deep crater.

Full sizeNobody died from this explosion, but all five members of the Gregg family (and one visiting cousin) were injured in the ensuing blast. The Greggs would successfully sue the Air Force for $54,000. And the crew of the B-47E? They were initially detained — officials worried this bombing was an act of sabotage — but otherwise avoided reprimand. (The bomber crew at least had the decency to apologize to the Greggs.) Nowadays the crater sits on private property, but you can visit the spot on Google Maps.

The second accidental bombing of the Carolinas occurred around midnight on January 24, 1961, when a B-52G bomber broke up near Goldsboro, North Carolina after a leak was noticed during a standard mid-air refueling. The aircraft's wreckage fell over farmland in the small town of Faro.

Five of the eight crew members survived this crash. Pilot Adam Maddocks managed to survive without an ejector seat, parachuting off the plane as it spiraled to the ground. After the accident, Major Richard Rardin noted the difficulties of crash-landing in rural North Carolina:

I could see three or four other chutes against the glow of the wreckage. The plane hit ten or twelve seconds after bail out. I hit some trees. I had a fix on some lights and started walking. My biggest difficulty getting back was the various and sundry dogs I encountered on the road.

Two Mark 39 thermonuclear weapons were onboard the bomber. One of these bombs parachuted to the ground, whereas the other smashed into a farmer's field at give or take 700 miles per hour, losing its uranium component in the process.

Full sizeUnlike the 1958 mishap, the Goldsboro crash could have had dire consequences for the Tar Heel State. As the bombs' deactivator Dr. Jack Revelle later admitted, "How close was it to exploding? My opinion is damn close. You might now have a very large Bay of North Carolina if that thing had gone off." The University of North Carolina elaborates further on this belated realization:

Robert McNamara, then Secretary of Defense, admitted that when the parachute-less bomb was found, its arming mechanism had accidentally gone through all but one of the seven steps toward detonation.

More alarming information about the crash was revealed later. In 1992, Congress released a summary of the Goldsboro accident indicating that, according to investigators, upon impact the parachute-less bomb had broken into several pieces, one of which was never found. The missing piece contained uranium, and it was believed that it may have struck the ground so hard that it sank deep into the soft, swampy earth.

Lest you think some free uranium is up for grabs, the Air Force has purchased the land where the non-parachuted second bomb fell. For those of you who are now in an apocalyptic mood, here are some other occasions we almost nuked ourselves. 'The aims of the infiltration of the Jewish mock-Christians in the clergy are clearly laid down in an interesting document which the Abbé Chabauty had published, and which is also mentioned by the archbishop of Port Louis, Monsignore Leon Meurin, S.J.
This concerns a letter from the secret leader of the international Jews, who lived towards end of the 15th century in Constantinople, to the Jews in France. As answer to an earlier letter to him from Chamor Rabino de Arles, he gives them in this the desired instructions. This document fell into the hands of the French authorities and Abbé Chabauty had it published. The letter runs literally:

“Beloved brother in Moses, we have received your letter, in which you report of your anxieties of soul and the misfortune which you must bear. We suffer this sorrow with you. The advice of the Grand Rabbis and Satraps of our laws runs as follows:

“You say that the King of France compels you to become Christians.
Well then, do his will, but preserve the law of Moses in your hearts.

“You say that they wish to seize your goods with violence.
Let you children become merchants, so that through trade they may rob the Christians of their property.

“You say that there is a striving after your life.
Let your sons become doctors and chemists, so that they can take life from the Christians without having to fear punishment.

“You say that your synagogues are destroyed.
Let your sons become priests and abbots, so that they can destroy the Christian Church.

“You say that you are oppressed in other ways.
Let your sons become lawyers or notaries or undertake some other profession which has usually to do with public affairs. Thus you will rule the Christians, you will gain control of their land and avenge yourselves upon them.

“Follow the commands which we give you and experience will so teach you that, although you are now downtrodden, you attain the high point of power.”

The infiltration of Jewish mock-Christians into the French clergy of that time caused much harm, since it made possible the spreading out of the Huguenot movement in the 16th century. This sect was supported by Jews who pretended to be Christians, and clearly differed from the Lutheran churches which even seized upon anti-Jewish measures.

The purpose of this Jewish infiltration into the clergy is evident: the destruction of the Church from within. What was said in the aforesaid letter has been confirmed to sufficiency in countless trials by the Holy Inquisition against clergy who honoured Judaism.
The treacherous activity of the clergy of the “Fifth Column” is indescribably many-sided, yet always directed at the same goal: to passionately defend the Jews or to favour heretical and today, revolutionary openly anti-Christian movements, to weaken the defence of the Church and to attack good Christians – especially the successful defenders of Christianity –, to denigrate and destroy them. Thus they prepare the victory of the Jewish heretical Freemasons and Communist organisations and hope in the future to be able to fully destroy the Church.

The trials brought by the Holy Inquisition against archbishops, abbots, deacons, priests and monks who were secret practisers of Judaism, give a wealth of information concerning the tactics applied by the clergy of the “Fifth Column”.

The phenomenon of Jewish infiltration into the clergy has existed as proven since the beginnings of Christianity and was constantly one of the main dangers which Holy Church, not only in the one or other land, but in the entire Christian world, saw facing it.
If we wish to investigate this problem in its entire extent, then a work of many volumes would be necessary.

 We will therefore restrict ourselves to one of the many tragic historical trials of Jewish infiltration into the clergy, which made possible the present triumph of Jewish Imperialism. The following example will suffice, in order to reveal how the Synagogue carried out its infiltrations into the Christian clergy, for its tactics were at different times and with different peoples always similar.

The learned Jewish historian Abram Leon Sachar, one of the directors of the Hillel de la B’nai B’rith Foundation, Jewish community leader and later president of the Brandeis University, writes in his work “History of the Jews”, in connection with the conversion of the Jews to Christianity in Spain since the year 1391 and with the later results of these conversions, as follows:

“But after 1391, when the Jews were more strongly under pressure, whole communities confessed to the Christian belief.
The majority of the new converts eagerly utilised their new status. Hundreds of thousands came together in places from which previously they had been excluded on account of their faith. They entered professions hitherto forbidden them and had admittance to the secret Senate of the Universities.
They obtained important state offices and even penetrated into the Church of the all highest. Their power increased more and more with their wealth, and many could thus reckon upon being accepted into the oldest nobility families of Spain . .

An Italian who lived almost at the same time remarked that the converted Jews practically ruled Spain, while their secret adherence to Judaism destroyed the Christian faith. Like a wedge, hatred stood between old and new Christians.
The neophytes were regarded as rogues, as ‘infamous’ or ‘pig dogs.’ They were despised on account of their success, their pride and their cynical attitude to Catholic practices . . . While the masses observed with gloomy bitterness the success of the new Christians, the clergy lied about their unfaithfulness and their lack of honesty.

It was suspected with justice that the majority of converts were still Jews in their heart. The compulsory conversion had not been able to eliminate a legacy centuries old. Tens of thousands of the new Christians outwardly submitted, went as usual to Church, murmured the prayers to themselves, carried out rites and observed the customs. But their spirit had still not been converted.”224

It is difficult to aptly comprehend the conversion of the Jews to Christianity who became a veritable “Fifth Column” in the bosom of Christian society. Alarming is the manner in which the Jews gained control of the government posts, of corresponding places in the universities and in all realms of social life and also penetrated into the nobility families and even into the sanctuary (all-holiest) of the Church; as the Jewish academician correctly writes, the Jewish infiltration into the clergy.

After recounting how real Catholics grew suspicious when converted Jews, during the baptism of their children, “at once washed away the baptismal mark” from them, this Jewish historian continues:

“It was suspected that they celebrated the Jewish festivals in secret, ate Jewish-foods, maintained friendships with Jews and studied the ancient Jewish science. Reports of countless spies had the aim of confirmation of these suspicions. What son of the Church could have been able to look on calmly at how these hypocrites made merry at the Christian practices and accumulated riches and honours?”225

Althis was proved to sufficiency, for the Spanish Inquisition knew best of all how to introduce spies into the Jews’ own ranks, who then helped it to discover the most closely guarded secrets, even if they were still so well concealed under the mask of false Christianity.
In this lies one of the main reasons for the deep hatred of the Jews towards the Spanish Inquisition and for this reason they have organised against it for centuries long a campaign of slander and blasphemy in the whole world, which has given occasion to short-sighted condemnations and covered the historical truth with dirt.

The Jewish historian Cecil Roth, so very highly regarded in Jewish circles, assures us in his “History of the Marranos”, an official Jewish publication of the Jewish publishing house in Buenos Aires, in connection with the same events that even if there were honest converts, nevertheless the majority were in their innermost hearts just as Jewish as previously.

In appearance they lived just as Christians, had their children baptised in the Church, but hastened to efface the traces of the ceremony, as soon as they were back home again.
They had themselves married by a priest, but this ceremony did not satisfy them, and they carried out yet a second one among themselves in order to render the marriage legitimate. They went often to confession, but their confessions were so unreal, that – so it is said – a priest once begged one of them for a piece of his clothing, as a relic of such a pure soul. Behind this outward concealment they remained what they had always been.

The Jewish historian speaks below of how they carried out the Jewish ceremonies down to the last detail, celebrated the Sabbath as far as was possible for them, and often entered upon a marriage with descendants of open Jews.

Then he makes the following interesting revelations: “They secretly attended the Synagogues, for whose illumination they regularly donated oil. They also formed religious communities under the protection of a saintly Christian, with apparent Catholic aims, which they used as pretence in order to be able to carry out their very ancient rites. As far as their race and their faith is concerned, then they were the same as before their conversion.

They were one hundred percent Jews, and not only in name. Christians, on the other hand, they were only for the sake of outward form.
After the religious hindrances had been cleared away, which had previously blocked the way to them, the new converts and their descendants in social and economic respect, made enormously rapid progress. However much their honesty was doubted, they might nevertheless nowhere be excluded any more on account of their faith. The legal career, the government, the army, the universities, and even the Church were soon filled by more or less doubtful new converts or their direct descendants. The richest married into the high nobility of the land, for only few impoverished Counts or knights could withstand the attractive power of money.”226

The third remark of the Jew Cecil Roth to the third chapter of this work is very interesting and runs literally: “Jerome Munzer, a German, who travelled in Spain in the years 1494-95, reported that, until a few years previously in Valencia, where later the Church of the Holy Catalina de Siena was built, there was a church which was dedicated to Saint Christopher.
Here were found the graves of the ‘marranos’, i.e., of the false Christians who were inwardly Jews.
If a Jew died, they pretended to be in agreement with the rites of the Christian religion and carried in a procession the coffin covered with a golden cloth and image of Saint Christopher. But in spite of all, they washed the body of the dead and buried them according to their own rites. . .”
 A similar case is said to have occurred in Barcelona, where a marrano, if he said, “Let us go today into the Church of the Holy Cross”, meant by this the secret Synagogue which was so named. A classical report about the situation and the hideouts of the marranos of this time is in the history of the Catholic Kings by Bernaldez, contained in Chapter 18.227

On the ensuing pages of the already mentioned “History of the Marranos”, several examples are given of how it was successful for several of them to attain high positions. The Jew Azarias Chinillo, for example, who upon his conversion took the name Luis de Santangel, went to Saragossa and there studied law.
Afterwards he obtained a high position at the court and a nobility title. “His nephew Pedro Santangel became Bishop of Mallorca and his son Martin a judge in the capital. Other members of the family occupied high offices in the Church and in the government of the state.”

Then the famous Jewish historian enumerates further Jews in Church offices: “Juan de Torquémada, the cardinal of Saint Sixtus was directly descended from Jews228, in the same way as the devout Hemando de Talavera, the archbishop of Granada, and Alonso de Orpeza, the head of the Hieronymite Order . . .
Juan the Pacheco, Marquis of Villena and head of the Order of Santiago, who during the rule of Henry the Incapable was sovereign ruler in Castile and tenaciously sued for the hand of Isabella, was descended on both father as well as mother’s side from the Jew Ruy Capon. His brother, Pedro Giron, was the head of the (Catholic military) Order of Calatrava, and his uncle was archbishop of Toledo.
At least seven of the head Prelates of the kingdom had Jewish blood in their veins. The same was the case with the Chief paymaster . . .
The numerical proportion of converts with their rapidly increasing descendants and far-reaching family connections was very great. In the south of the land it formed – so it is said – a third of the population of the most important cities.
Accordingly it must have been three hundred thousand on the entire peninsula, inclusive of the pure-blooded and the half-pagan relations. The former were not so numerous. All in all they represented in the state organism an all-embracing, unassimilable community in no way to be despised.
The Jews who had been converted to Christianity, together with their most distant descendants, were known in Jewish circles by the name Asunim, ‘Compelled’, i.e. persons who were compelled to accept the ruling religion . . .”

And the Jewish writer continues his interesting report: “A new generation had grown up, which had been born after the conversion of their parents and was naturally baptised in childhood. The position of Church Law could not have been clearer. They were Christians in the truest sense of the word, and the practice of Catholicism placed them equal to every other son or every other daughter of the Church.
However, it was known that they were only Christians in name. They publicly supported the new faith only very rarely, while they clung all the more in secret to their old one. The position of the Church had become far more difficult than before the fateful year 1391. Previously there had existed countless unbelievers who were easy to recognise and who were made harmless through a succession of systematic government and Church laws.
But the same unbelievers were now found in the bosom of the Church and spread out in all realms of Church and political life, often openly derided its teachings and through their influence infected the mass of the faithful. Through baptism they had merely changed from former unbelievers outside the Church to heretics within it.”229

Mayor Bloomberg is launching a campaign to overturn "stand your ground" laws around the nation, such as the one in Florida that led to the controversial shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Bloomberg has scheduled a press conference this afternoon in Washington with the Rev. Al Sharpton, the NAACP, the National Urban League and other groups to announce the initiative.

The billionaire mayor is expected to fund most –– if not all –– of the drive.

A couple of weeks ago, the mayor's office rushed to sign up volunteer lawyers to compile a list of stand-your-ground laws –– described by Bloomberg as "shoot first" laws –– around the country.'

LAVEEN - Police are saying more about a shooting at a Taco Bell Tuesday night in which one man died.
They're also identifying the victim as 29-year-old Daniel Adkins.

About 7:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend ordered food at the Taco Bell drive-thru and were told to pull up while their order was prepared.

At the same time, Adkins stepped around a corner into the path of the vehicle and angry words were exchanged between he and the driver.
They got into an altercation and Adkins was shot once by the driver. He died at the scene.

The driver, a 22-year-old black male, called police but has not been arrested.
At first, the couple claimed that Adkins had a metal pipe that he swung at them -- but it turns out he was holding a dog leash with his yellow lab on the other end.

Family members want that driver arrested, but he's claiming self-defense.
"He needs to be behind bars. I'll never see my brother again," says sister Marina Reyes. "If he felt that my brother was threatening him, he could have easily just rolled up the window and called the cops."

A metal pipe or bat was never located. An independent witness did say Adkins swung his fists in the driver's direction.
“He swung his fist towards the driver window, and at some point the driver shot him,” says Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. “Just because we don’t book a person immediately does not mean we don’t charge a person at a later date.”

The dog, Lady, stayed by Adkins' side until the Humane Society came. Adkins lived with his mom and dad. He's 29, but his family says he's mentally disabled and has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old. He didn't drive, and walked wherever he went.

"This person is still on the loose and I don't agree with that. So he's saying self defense, then where's the weapon? Where's the pipe? They didn't find anything on my brother," says Reyes. "He was just too aggressive, you don't need to go that far."
The shooter's name has not been released. The investigation is still ongoing.

What Really Happened in Cincinnati

In April, when riots erupted in Cincinnati, the national media let out a glad cry: Black rage, that hottest of political commodities, was back!

The subsequent post-riot drill, perfected over the last four decades, unfolded without flaw: instant discovery of the riot’s "root causes"; half-hearted condemnation of the violence, followed immediately by its enthusiastic embrace as a "wake-up call" to America; warnings of future outbreaks if the "wake-up call" is ignored; and hurried formation of task forces promising rapid aid for Cincinnati’s inner city.

"Riot ideology"—historian Fred Siegel’s caustic phrase for the belief that black rioting is a justified answer to white racism—is alive and well in twenty-first-century America. Riots may be relatively rare, but the thinking that rationalizes them is not. It pervades the country’s response to underclass problems and to race issues generally.

The Cincinnati riots and their aftermath offer a peerless example of all that is wrong with this conventional approach to race. But in Cincinnati, too, if you look, are the clearest possible guideposts for how to get race issues right.

A fatal police shooting of an unarmed teenager, Timothy Thomas, triggered the riots. After 2 AM on Saturday, April 7, Thomas spotted two Cincinnati police officers and started running. Wanted on 14 warrants, Thomas led the policemen on a chase through the narrow alleys of Cincinnati’s most drug-infested and violent neighborhood, Over-the-Rhine.
The area’s Italianate walk-ups, home in the late nineteenth century to one of America’s most culturally rich and densely populated German-American communities, today often are either abandoned or given over to methadone clinics, drop-in centers, or Section 8 public housing.

Officer Steve Roach, hearing a radio alert about a fleeing suspect with 14 warrants, joined the pursuit and came abruptly face-to-face with the 19-year-old in a dark alley.
When Thomas appeared to reach for his waistband, Roach shot him once in the chest. Three days later, Over-the-Rhine would be burning.

Cincinnati’s riots hardly constituted a spontaneous outcry against injustice.
A demagogic campaign against the police, of the kind common in American cities today, had already heated black residents almost to the boiling point.
 "Thirteen black men!"—a tally of the suspects killed by the Cincinnati police since 1995—was the rallying cry of protesters in the City Council chambers last fall. Thomas’s shooting (added to a January shoot-out death) brought the total to 15, and black politicians duly updated their cry to "Fifteen black men," in effect charging that Cincinnati’s cops were indiscriminately mowing down black citizens.
With robotic predictability, every national news account of the riots repeated the cry, to demonstrate Cincinnati’s racism.

In fact, the list of the 15 police victims shows the depraved nature not of Cincinnati’s cops but of its criminals. Harvey Price, who heads the roster, axed his girlfriend’s 15-year-old daughter to death in 1995, then held a SWAT team at bay for four hours with a steak knife, despite being maced and hit with a stun gun.
When he lunged at an officer with the knife, the cop shot him.
Jermaine Lowe, a parole violator wanted for armed robbery, fled in a stolen car at the sight of a police cruiser, crashed into another car, then unloaded his handgun at the pursuing officers.
 Alfred Pope robbed, pistol-whipped, and most likely fired at three people in an apartment hallway, just the latest assault by the vicious 23-year-old, who had already racked up 18 felony charges and five convictions. He then aimed his handgun at close range at the pursuing officers, and they shot him dead in return.

To call such lowlifes martyrs to police brutality is a stretch.
Besides the Thomas shooting, only three of the 15 cases raise serious questions about officer misjudgment and excessive force. The notion that race was the controlling element in the 15 deaths is even more absurd.

But it is perfectly in keeping with Cincinnati’s racialized politics. Advocates of the city’s status quo, whether opposing competitive bidding for city services or blocking the investigation of low-income housing fraud, can bring the City Council to its knees by playing the race card. For the last two years, black nationalists calling themselves the Special Forces have turned up regularly in the delicately carved council chambers of Cincinnati’s Romanesque City Hall to spew anti-white and anti-Semitic diatribes. wo days after the Thomas shooting, on Monday, April 9, they were back, accompanied by hundreds of angry black residents, by Timothy Thomas’s mother, and by her attorney Kenneth Lawson—Cincinnati’s answer to Johnnie Cochran.

The Council meeting instantly spun out of control. Backed by constant screaming from the crowd, lawyer Lawson and another racial activist, the Reverend Damon Lynch III, masterfully inflamed the crowd’s anger by suggesting that city officials were willfully withholding information about the Thomas shooting.
Lawson, and doubtless Lynch, too, knew full well that disclosing Officer Roach’s testimony after the shooting would jeopardize the investigation and possible prosecution of the case, yet both threatened to hold every chamber occupant hostage until Roach’s testimony was released. Some of the Council Democrats seconded the threats. Three chaotic hours later, Lawson and Lynch grudgingly agreed to disband, Lynch demanding that the police chief "call off the dogs [i.e., officers] outside."

The crowd left City Hall and, swelling to over 1,000 along the way, headed toward the boxy, low-slung police headquarters. Protesters screamed at the officers protecting the station and snapped photos of them, promising lethal revenge for the 15 black "murders." Someone threw a rock that shattered the station’s front door; others pulled the flag from its pole and hung it upside down; police horses were hit; officers were injured by flying glass—but the order was: "let them vent." The lieutenant in charge even gave a protester a bullhorn in the hope of calming the crowd. It didn’t work.

Finally, at 1 AM, police started arresting those who were hurling rocks and bottles at the station house. Too late: the violence had begun. Over the next three days, crowds would rampage through Cincinnati’s poorest neighborhoods, beating white motorists, burning property, breaking hundreds of store windows, and making off with the appliances, furniture, clothing, and booze within. Gunmen fired thousands of shots, many at officers. The police chief begged black clergy for help in restoring calm but got little response.

Though the police were outmatched and overworked, Democratic mayor Charles Luken refused to take additional measures against the violence. Then on Thursday, a bullet hit a cop, grazing off his belt buckle. That afternoon, Luken imposed an 8 PM curfew and announced a state of emergency.

By then, the riot ideologues were in full cry. The NAACP’s Kweisi Mfume flew in to declare Cincinnati the "belly of the whale" of police violence against young black men. Al Sharpton called for federal oversight not just of Cincinnati’s but of the nation’s police. Time magazine named Cincinnati a "model of racial injustice." The New York Times found pervasive economic discrimination against the city’s blacks. White gentrifiers, pronounced The New Republic, lay behind the riots. The Los Angeles Times and ABC This Week noted how salutary the violence had been.

Local leaders scrambled to contain the public-relations fiasco and to show their concern for black anger. The City Council hurriedly voted to submit a pending racial-profiling lawsuit to costly "mediation," rather than contest it, even though none of the suit’s allegations had been shown to be credible.
Mayor Luken invited in the Justice Department to investigate the police division, which could result in  federal oversight of the kind that busts municipal budgets. But the city’s main riot response was to form Community Action Now (CAN), a three-man panel dedicated to racial reconciliation through, as its members and promotional materials insist, action, action, and more action. Its three co-chairs are Ross Love, an ex-Procter & Gamble vice president who now heads a black radio empire; Tom Cody, an executive vice president of Federated Department Stores; and the Reverend Damon Lynch, the activist who calls the police "dogs."

At CAN’s inception, Ross Love, the official spokesman, announced five task forces to "address the root causes of the recent unrest." The groups, manned by local civil rights figures, business leaders, and poverty advocates, would address "education and youth development, economic inclusion, police and the justice system, housing and neighborhood development, and image and media." But "root causes" have a way of proliferating: soon, Love created a sixth task force to look at "health care and human services." And as a harbinger of its future largesse, CAN then hired a former black city manager at $1,400 a day as "special counsel."

With the formation of CAN, and the media agitation that preceded it, we are ready to test the central tenets of riot ideology. In place of "riots," any other element of underclass behavior, such as crime, can be substituted—the rationalizations are identical.

Start with the contention that riots are a response to white racism, since this is the mother of all "root cause" arguments, first popularized by the Kerner Commission Report on the 1960s riots. Ross Love gives this argument an economic spin: racially based "economic exclusion" is his mantra for explaining why blacks rioted in his city. The New York Times jumped on the "economic exclusion" bandwagon as well, claiming that Cincinnati has long "frustrated" blacks’ justified demands for a "share of prosperity."

To test that hypothesis, walk around Cincinnati’s poorest areas, from the river basin, spanned by John A. Roebling’s first, beautiful suspension bridge, up to the city’s seven surrounding green hills, which in Cincinnati’s nineteenth-century heyday compressed its population into a greater density than anywhere but Manhattan. You will see knots of young men in their teens and twenties milling about on almost every street corner, towels draped over their heads, their shorts hanging far below their underwear.
Heat has driven some out of their apartments, but many others are there to peddle drugs hidden in crevices in the old brick buildings. I approached a group of boys leaning against a tiny convenience store on a steep intersection called the Five Corners. One boy’s T-shirt read: NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE, THESE OUR STREETS, F—K THE POLICE, 1981-2001—presumably Timothy Thomas’s dates. I introduced myself and asked if they’d answer a few questions. "Hell, no!" In a blink of an eye, all but one of the boys had disappeared across the street and into a parking lot or down the steep incline.

Inside the tiny, dark store, a fortyish Jordanian with a mustache and a receding hairline stands squeezed behind the register. He will only give his name as "Mike." "We call the police five to ten times a day," he says quietly. "They drive through and tell them to move." What are they selling? He casts his eyes down. "I don’t know; I don’t want to talk about it."

At least Mike’s store has not been shot at. Under the shredded red awning of Johnnie’s Supermarket in the Walnut Hills neighborhood, spider-web cracks radiate across the window from a bullet hole.
The bullet’s target—a large red sign prohibiting loitering and giving the police the authority to come onto the premises at any time—is still visible under the cracked window. Until recently, up to 50 young men stood in front of Johnnie’s, hawking drugs and extorting money from the market’s customers. They are mostly gone now, thanks to an undercover operation that netted 19 indictments. But in front of an abandoned building kitty-corner from Johnnie’s, ten young men in white T-shirts shift back and forth.

Now, remember the "economic exclusion" argument: Cincinnati’s racist power structure is excluding hordes of qualified young black men. Well, here the men are, and it is ludicrous to attribute their joblessness to corporate bigotry, rather than to their own unemployability. The high school dropout rate in Cincinnati is between 60 and 70 percent.

And will the young men across from Johnnie’s show up every day to work on time and respond appropriately to authority? Has any of them even applied for a job and been turned down? Last summer, King’s Island, an amusement park north of the city, had to import 1,000 young Eastern Europeans for summer jobs, because it could find no local youths to apply. Yet the well-intentioned CEO of Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati’s beloved corporate titan, has called, in good riot-ideologue fashion, for the urgent creation of 2,500 government- and privately subsidized summer jobs to forestall another rampage.

I asked Ross Love what evidence he had for "economic exclusion" in Cincinnati. "You have to look at the end result," he said. "The unemployment rate is four times higher for blacks than for whites; for 18- to 30-year-olds, it is an incredible 50 percent." But "looking at the end result" is the hallmark of bogus civil rights analysis, designed to shift attention from individual deficits onto the resultant disparate outcomes, which are then attributed to racism. We can argue about whether society is, in some structural way, still somehow to blame for Cincinnati’s idle, functionally illiterate young dealers, but let’s not brand employers as racist.

Cincinnati’s African immigrants have a different perspective from CAN on "economic exclusion." "We experience more resentment from African-Americans than from whites," says cabdriver Mor Thiam. "They don’t want to see us in business. ‘Man, go back to Africa! You come here and take our monies,’ they say."
Amy, a Senegalese cabdriver in a robin’s-egg-blue ruffled cotton dress, has been teaching herself about riot ideology by listening to Ross Love’s local radio station, WDBZ, "The Buzz." "They are angry on that station!" she exclaims. "A lot of them don’t work; they go to your taxi, try to steal your money. When I came here, I earned $4.25 an hour, but I worked. I liked it. I paid my bills; I sent money home. If you want to get a job, you get a job. We see a lot of opportunity here."

The notion that this friendly, well-meaning town is denying employment to job-ready black men because of the color of their skin is ridiculous. To the contrary, Cincinnati’s biggest corporations have long practiced affirmative action. Expect CAN’s "economic inclusion" task force to recommend even more quotas, however, rather than honestly to address why young blacks are not working.

Those who attribute riots to racism blame racist police no less than racist employers. The riot apologists’ most incessant indictment against the Cincinnati Police Division: the Cincinnati 15. But besides ignoring the defensive nature of almost all the killings, the apologists never mention that one of the 15 victims dragged an officer—a black officer—to his death in a car; or that, as of May 17, all four of the most recent shootings by police (two lethal) involved black officers; or that, with a death toll of three officers over the last four years, a Cincinnati cop is 27 times more likely to die at the hands of a black man than a black man is to die at the hands of the Cincinnati police.

Little evidence supports the claim that the Cincinnati Police Division is an institution out of control. In 1999, Cincinnati officers had fewer fatal shootings per officer than the San Diego Police Department, constantly lauded as progressive by the liberal press.
Over the last six years, the police in St. Louis, a city comparable in size to Cincinnati, killed 20 suspects, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, without attracting the national media’s attention.

Cincinnati officers use non-lethal physical force (such as punching or kicking) about 50 times per year, or in .09 percent of all arrests: an unexceptionable rate. A Cincinnati Enquirer study found no racial pattern in force incidents, and as for the racial-profiling charges, Cincinnati officers ticket black and white drivers proportionately to their representation in the city’s population.
The department’s current and previous chief are highly respected among their peers. While by no means as cutting-edge in its management techniques as the New York Police Department, the Cincinnati department appears to be easily as well managed as most.

Like every police force in the country the Cincinnati department struggles with police-community relations. Too many officers are sullen and defensive, say some downtown leaders. Of course, they often face a very hostile audience. "Younger people have a hateful attitude," laments Officer Dean Chatman, recalling the F—K THE POLICE T-shirts he has seen.
Boys try to provoke the police into chasing them, so that they can be caught empty-handed. Passersby often accuse Chatman of being a "house nigger." "They tell me: ‘You’ve sold out; you especially should understand,’ " he says. "My response is: ‘No, I don’t. My brother wouldn’t do what you’re doing.’"

But for all the talk of Cincinnati’s abysmal police-community relations, it is easy to find people who bear no animus toward the police. Typical is Galen Bailey, a 40-year-old illustrator. He figures he’s been stopped 15 or 16 times for speeding (he drives very fast), and there has been a warrant out for his arrest because of unpaid traffic tickets. The only time he’s felt any qualms about a police officer occurred during a traffic stop across the Ohio River in Kentucky: "I got the impression I should keep my mouth shut," he recalls.

Even some of those who express animus report civil treatment. A 16-year-old in a doo-rag and low-slung pants waiting at a bus stop outside City Hall says he figures he’s had three encounters with the police. Most recently, he was frisked by officers looking for car thieves. Afterward, they said: "We’re sorry, we made a terrible mistake"—precisely the courtesy that police brass nationally struggle to elicit from their officers. The apology calmed him down a little, he said, "but they still had me kind of mad."

But the Cincinnati Police Division does have one very big problem: it has to fight too hard to get rid of bad apples on the force. About a decade ago, seeking to give managers more power, the department instituted binding arbitration for disciplining officers. "It was the worst thing we’ve ever done," says former police chief Mike Snowdon.
The arbitrators almost always vote pro-union and anti-management; the division has lost all of its last ten cases. Rolando Underwood is the poster boy for the department’s discipline problems. A six-foot-two, 245-pound drug dealer, Underwood was suspended three times, fired and reinstated once, and reprimanded five times for offenses ranging from incompetence to neglect of duty during his ten years on the force. In 1995, he was suspended for conduct unbecoming to an officer for a sexual imbroglio. The department finally nailed him when he negotiated an $80,000 marijuana deal with an undercover officer.

No protesters are calling for giving management more power to fight police corruption, however; instead, the activists are making the usual demands for stronger civilian oversight. And they are racializing the discipline issue. In 1995, a special commission decried the fact that blacks, 23 percent of the force, represented 44 percent of all discipline cases. But court mandates have forced Cincinnati to hire and promote by race since 1981, and of course such mandates invariably compromise quality.

Even so, the department is far from the pit of injustice that the civil rights establishment and the national press have painted it. Does it stop and frisk more blacks than whites? You bet: because blacks commit the overwhelming preponderance of crime in Cincinnati. Bringing up that issue, however, is deemed "racially inflammatory." But it wasn’t police brutality that incited the riots; it was the incessant anti-police campaign waged by local activists.

Ever since the Kerner Commission report, riot apologists have insisted that more social programs are necessary to prevent riots. The Kerner Commission called for welfare on demand, 1 million new government jobs, and extensive new job-training programs. No matter that the federal government was already spending $1.6 billion on job training in 1968, that cities with some of the most brutal riots, such as Detroit and New Haven, were particularly well-endowed with the then-400-plus federal poverty programs, or that the welfare population was already skyrocketing, despite an unprecedentedly long period of economic growth.

Cincinnati’s leaders are no less impervious to reality. Since the riots, the Reverend Damon Lynch has been blaming "disinvestment" in poorer areas and demanding that poverty agencies that had been defunded because of fraud be fully refunded. Yet Over-the-Rhine, with its thick concentration of helping agencies, is already a social worker’s dream.

Mayor Luken’s swipe at the business community, with its faux sorrow and its faux facts, is a riot-ideology classic. "I am somewhat saddened that it takes this kind of situation to come together, [but] I’m happy that business leaders are finally engaged," he pontificated at the end of riot week. Finally engaged?
Cincinnati’s business community can perhaps be faulted for the dreary conventionality and naïveté of its philanthropic efforts but not for the scope of those efforts. Local corporations contribute millions to poverty agencies and civil rights groups. Fifth Third Bancorp and Procter & Gamble, for example, have been funding "economic development" in Walnut Hills, home of Johnnie’s Supermarket, only to see their projects torn up by the recent riots. Loath to bear a grudge, the companies have only "redoubled [their] commitment to . . . improve the neighborhood," according to a spokesman. Too bad they haven’t decided to rethink radically what Walnut Hills and other riot targets really need.

Wrong on the Facts
The New Republic’s Michelle Cottle has given riot ideology a decidedly new-century twist: economic revitalization, not economic abandonment, in Over-the-Rhine caused the Cincinnati riots, she argues. Seems you just can’t win.

Cottle’s anti-gentrification case is easily dismissable, since growth is an antidote to, not a cause of, poverty. But buried in her occasionally qualified case against development is something far more dangerous: a spurious revisionist history of 1990s policing that seeks to delegitimate the greatest crime conquest—and the greatest boon to the law-abiding majority of ghetto residents—in decades.

Cottle stops just short of claiming that the new businesses and few white residents trickling into Over-the-Rhine have actually displaced black residents. She is wise to restrain herself. In 1870, Over-the-Rhine housed 60,000; today, the same buildings contain just over 7,600 people, 20 percent fewer than in 1990. There’s room and to spare.

The biggest problem with new urban entrepreneurship, Cottle asserts, is that it brings in the police. Cottle claims that 1990s policing in Cincinnati, New York, and elsewhere arose from the need to make the world safe for white yuppies. If the police stopped and frisked more suspects for guns, if they enforced quality-of-life ordinances more vigorously—enforcement techniques she preposterously labels “police brutality”—it was only to protect the white urban homesteaders moving into the ghetto.

This is fantasy of the purest order. Had Cottle bothered to check the facts, she would have discovered that policing in the 1990s was driven by one thing, and one thing only: the incidence of crime.
There is no column in the reams of data that top brass pore over in New York’s weekly Compstat meetings for neighborhood Starbucks, no column for the social class of crime victims. A Compstat session several months ago intensely grilled a Queens borough commander over the murder of a Mexican gang-banger outside a seedy bar; no one asked first whether white dot-commers had “discovered” the bar.
The most stunning crime drops in New York occurred in places like the 33rd and 34th Precincts in Washington Heights—heart of the Dominican drug industry and a neighborhood wholly unspoiled by Martha Stewart catalogs. The NYPD created Model Blocks—its most intensive policing strategy, designed to liberate law-abiding residents from drug dealers—only in ungentrified neighborhoods. Cottle could stand a very long time on Elder Avenue, a Model Block in the Bronx, without seeing a single white person—with or without a Ralph Lauren polo shirt.

The situation in Cincinnati and other cities that implemented data-driven policing is the same. Police go where the crime is, and that is almost invariably in minority communities. But unfortunately Cottle’s ignorant thesis is catching on; of course the New York Times promptly picked it up, as part of the liberal press’s ongoing effort to discredit as racist the policing revolution of the last decade. If that effort succeeds, the long abatement of crime will end, and inner-city neighborhoods will return to the reign of the thugs.

Rioting sends a message, according to the riot ideology.
Indeed, riot apologists attribute deep thoughts about injustice to vandals. An assistant professor of communication at the University of Cincinnati saw the recent riots as a campfire sing-along:
"People wanted to come together and express their solidarity and frustration and outrage," he explained. David Gergen of U.S. News & World Report discerned concerns about global capitalism in the bonfires of Over-the-Rhine. The Cincinnati Enquirer was an equally creative oracle: the riots "revealed dissatisfaction in the areas of education, jobs, and economic opportunity," it editorialized.

These sympathetic spokesmen overlook one hard fact: rioters are often criminals. Seventy-two percent of the defendants indicted so far in the Cincinnati explosion have adult criminal histories. Prior offenses include rape, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, assault, weapons discharge, and endangering children.
The Walnut Hills riot was started by drug dealers and their clients, according to Candace Tubbs, a convicted former assistant to a Cincinnati drug lord who described to me the fun she used to have rolling in the piles of cash her boss hauled in. These rioting felons were simply wreaking en masse the destruction they usually wreak individually.

Many riot skeptics, including the great Edward Banfield, have questioned the logic of protesting injustice by destroying your local grocery store, or fighting police brutality by stealing microwave ovens. The riot apologists who nominate inadequate social spending as a "root cause" should wonder what "message" the Cincinnati rioters were sending when they torched poverty agencies. One group that provided financial assistance and job training, for example, lost about $50,000 from fire and theft.

No one likes alarm clocks, but we all acknowledge their usefulness. So, too, with riots, according to the true believers. CAN’s Ross Love told me that the "unrest" was a "wake-up call that the city needed." Kenneth Lawson, the inflammatory anti-police attorney, explained that the beatings of whites provided their recipients a lesson in what the "brothers" experience daily from the police, and that presumably the white establishment would take notice. The Los Angeles Times oozed: "While no one wants to say that the riots were good, there was on Friday an undeniable sense of relief that the mayhem . . . had laid bare Cincinnati’s fissures. Now, perhaps, there could be progress."

Try telling Chris Schoonover how useful rioting is. Schoonover is part of a still-small movement of white residents and business owners back into Over-the-Rhine. On the first day of violence, as she was driving back to her apartment, a brick flew through the car’s open window and struck her. "Man, you hit her in the head!" one brick thrower admiringly exclaimed to his buddy. At the hospital, Schoonover recognized an acquaintance among the dozens of bloodied people waiting for care: a rioter had jumped into her acquaintance’s car and beaten her viciously with a brick.

Since the attack, which left five staples in her scalp, Schoonover’s world has changed completely. Once exquisitely sensitive to racial political correctness, she now sees the world in black and white. For days after the attack she was terrified to return to her largely black neighborhood and university. The sight of white girls jogging alone filled her with dread that they would be attacked by a black person.

This heightened racial mistrust runs both ways. Schoonover’s black colleagues at the bar where she works were clearly uncomfortable around her after the riots. "The black community had put out a call to arms: ‘We need to be strong and united,’ " she says. The call translated into greater separatism.

After a couple of post-riot incidents in which white friends were threatened, Schoonover has blacked out her window so people on the street won’t see a white girl alone in her apartment. She recalls that, after the brick attack, "I was crying, because this was my neighborhood"—"her" neighborhood, despite the crack whores and the young men hustling drugs. Now she’s not so sure.

Here is the hidden logic of race riots: supposedly a cry against racial oppression, their implicit threat to destroy the city merely guarantees full employment for race hustlers and sensitivity trainers by driving the races further apart. If whites flee Over-the-Rhine, expect plenty of breast-beating in the future from the press and civil rights advocates about Cincinnati’s enduring racial segregation. No one will recall why the integrators left.

Riot apologists even deny the economic damage they cause. "No one has lost property value because of the riots," Ross Love told me. "Property values have gone up since the 1960s riots; there’s no reason to believe values are down because of last April."

"Is he crazy? What is he talking about?" sputtered Marlene Vonderhaar, an Over-the-Rhine merchant, when I told her of Love’s claims. In all of May, Vonderhaar made two sales from her antique store. "My shop is dead," she pronounces. Suburban customers refuse to come downtown now; business in the area has dropped some 60 percent. Vonderhaar lost up to $50,000 in merchandise when vandals, enraged that her store was already boarded up, hurled tires and bricks against the plywood, sending mirrors and ceramics shattering to the floor.

Vonderhaar’s antique store typifies the "gentrification" that some media critics blame for the riots. So what will be lost if her store and others like it fold? The new Over-the-Rhine entrepreneurs offer jobs to those local residents who have the work ethic to take advantage of them. They provide entrée to the world of work beyond Over-the-Rhine. And sometimes they may try on a very personal level to free someone from the ghetto. For several years, Vonderhaar has been struggling to save from the streets a charming homosexual youth with a crack-addicted mother. After he stole money from her, Vonderhaar gave him a second chance and tried hard to help. But when he continued to steal from her and others, she finally gave up. "He broke my heart and broke me," she says.

According to the riot ideology, the most authentic black leaders are angry black leaders, and the Reverend Damon Lynch, ever since his appointment as the city’s Number One racial healer, has taken on the role with a vengeance. He drove out an annual rock festival from Over-the-Rhine by threatening boycotts and protests, and he tried to shut down one of Cincinnati’s most moneymaking tourist attractions, its food festival. During a noisy sit-in at a downtown restaurant, he promised to "let people know that Cincinnati is not a place to bring your conventions or your business. Until there is justice, there will be no business as usual, no lunch as usual." (Lynch carefully refrained from defining the "justice" that would buy peace.) His choice of protest symbolism was fanciful, since no one has ever alleged that blacks cannot get service at downtown restaurants—but no more fanciful than his comparison of Cincinnati to South Africa in its "economic apartheid."

Lynch’s rhetorical extremism guarantees his ongoing relevance as anointed black leader. Liberal whites need black anger to prove the persistence of racism among their unenlightened neighbors, which they alone can atone for by the noblesse oblige of liberal paternalism. Thus, to reinforce their own sense of moral superiority, they confer racial authenticity only on blacks like Damon Lynch, self-proclaimed angry victims of American bigotry. Lynch’s ever more rash protests make a mockery of his mediator position on Community Action Now; if he wants to continue playing firebrand, he should resign from CAN. But no one dares suggest he leave, even though his boycotts are killing the very neighborhood he purports to represent. Ross Love’s support of his co-chair reflects his grasp of the underlying dialectic: "Lynch’s protests increase his authority," he told me. "They give him more credibility in the eyes of the people we need at the table."

And here, in a nutshell, is the tragedy of moral leadership in black America. Love merely states received wisdom in claiming that black moral authority derives from protesting white racism, and that the alienated youth who most respond to such protests are the most authentic representatives of the black community.

This logic consigns to silence many, many black Americans—law-abiding citizens, who see crime, not racism, as the biggest threat in their lives. Over-the-Rhine resident Sheila Randle, for example, doesn’t buy Love’s and Lynch’s charges. A former manager of Salvation Army stores, the 50-year-old Randle is a prisoner in her own home. Young people smoke marijuana and crack on the street outside her apartment all night; they jeer at her husband when he asks them to get off his car. Addicts have started breaking into her building’s entryway. "You never know who’s going to be on the landing in the morning," she says. Randle is desperate to move, but her options are limited.

What about these stories of police racism? I ask her. "I have no problem with the police; they treat me respectfully," she answers. "It’s the young people who are the problem." And the thesis that the police only care about white yuppies? "The police are there to protect all the people, not just the whites," she asserts. What about societal racism generally? "I’ve never experienced it."

Randle wanted to support the police in their time of trouble by attending the annual police memorial this May. The anti-police demonstrators frightened her off, however—demonstrators allegedly representing her interests as an oppressed black woman. As for the claim that the Timothy Thomas shooting is a sign of police racism, Randle will have none of it. "Thomas brought it on himself," she says. "He had [warrants] on him; if he had halted like they told him to, it wouldn’t have happened."

This is no fringe view. In early May, a letter writer named Loretta Blackburn wrote to the Cincinnati Enquirer: "If I were in pursuit of a black youth and had cornered him in an alley, after what happened to Officer Kevin Crayon [dragged to death last year by a 12-year-old joyrider], the first thing in my mind would be, ‘Someone is coming out of this alley; now who do you think it will be?’ We as black people need to get back to the basics and help the police to police our neighborhoods. . . . When you are in the streets hollering how unfair black people are being treated, what are you teaching your children about respect for authority? If you don’t like the job that [the police] are doing, then give them a helping hand, not a shot in the back."

Damon Lynch, Al Sharpton, and Kweisi Mfume have no interest in representing the Sheila Randles and Loretta Blackburns. Far more responsible leaders who do speak for such citizens are out there, though—but the opinion elites are not about to give them a platform.

Tom Jones is standing arms akimbo just inside Johnnie’s Supermarket, the beleaguered shooting target in Walnut Hills. Jones is helping Johnnie’s landlord, William "Babe" Baker, put the store back on its feet, after police busted its previous Arab lessees for fencing stolen goods. A small, wiry man in his fifties, alternately serious and effervescent, Jones is arguably the most relentless advocate for public safety in Cincinnati. Since moving his copying business here in 1995 from Washington, D.C., he has been organizing his community to battle drug dealers. His efforts helped cops make 335 drug arrests in a three-month period in 1999.

Jones has one overriding principle for how to take back a community from crime: "You must build a working relationship with the police," he says, crouching down for emphasis. Jones taught his fellow businessmen in Avondale, the still-scarred epicenter of the 1968 riots, to call the police when crowds of dealers amassed in front of their stores. "They weren’t calling!" he recalls in amazement. He organized a crime task force that won extra police patrols for the district. Unable to persuade the merchants to testify in drug cases, Jones goes on their behalf. "I stand in front of the judge and tell him: ‘This community wants the dealers out,’ " he says.

Jones’s work with the police has won him accolades and, by a landslide, the presidency of the local community council, but he has acquired numerous enemies as well. "I may as well have kkk written on my chest," he says. Sure enough, when I asked members of the Special Forces, the black nationalists who have been disrupting the City Council, about Tom Jones, one of their "generals" contemptuously replied: "Oh, you mean Uncle Tom Jones? He was with his little group to sterilize Burnet Avenue [Avondale’s main commercial strip]. We don’t need police protection; it was only one block, and most of the crime is gone." Not exactly. Last year, a drug dealer fatally shot a landlord in the head on Burnet Avenue for removing the dealers from his property. Jones has been shot at as well.

Jones has only scorn for the post-riot circus. Would the civil rights activists and poverty advocates on CAN’s six task forces show up if they couldn’t get a cut of the resulting money? he wonders. As for that beefed-up social spending, Jones observes that "developed neighborhoods work very well without social programs, because they got up off their ass and solved their problems." If the existing programs didn’t prevent the riots, Jones asks, "Why are we creating more programs?"

No less iconoclastic is the man Jones is helping at Johnnie’s—real-estate owner Babe Baker. Infuriating the black establishment is a badge of honor for these men. "I’m probably the most disliked person in this city," Baker says proudly. "No, you’re not; I am!" Tom Jones shoots back, laughing.

Actually, it’s hard to imagine anyone disliking the tall, ebullient 84-year-old Baker, a former luminary of Cincinnati’s rich musical life. In the 1950s and 1960s, Baker was the impresario for serious jazz in Cincinnati, booking such great as John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley into his dozen nightclubs. But the 1968 riots almost bankrupted him, and now he sees the same destructive rationalizations for violence at work again. "You can’t go around with a chip on your shoulder, blaming the world for your problems," he says of the rioters. "You must have a desire to do something." Black poverty will be solved only by "education and economics—putting your shoulder to the workforce"—not by protests, he insists.

Baker embodies a powerful tradition in black culture: optimistic self-help. Arriving in Cincinnati from Alabama at age 11, he started working in a produce market in Over-the-Rhine and has not stopped working since. I ask him if there was a different work ethic back then. He closes his eyes and laughs uproariously. Pausing to wipe his eyes, he answers in a voice high and scratchy with age: "Absolutely! I’ve done all sorts of work. When I drove cabs, the other drivers taught me to trip the meter. I refused to do it, and they wonder why I made it and they didn’t." Welfare destroyed self-reliance, he says, and resulted in the time bomb of "babies having babies."

Baker believes that the free market is the best chance for reviving Over-the-Rhine and other troubled areas. He is a font of the entrepreneurial wisdom needed to do it. "You must pay your bills!" he says. After the 1968 riots, he obtained a loan to keep his jazz clubs open, but eventually the bank wrote it off. Five years later, he reactivated his debt and repaid it in full. Later, he wanted to buy some property for $80,000. "I went back to the bank and asked how to finance it. ‘Mr. Baker, with your signature,’ they said. Today, I can borrow more money than I need."

He knows how crucial knowledge is and frets that aspiring black entrepreneurs are reluctant to seek it. "You know how I learned banking?" he asks. "Someone asked me for a financial statement. I didn’t know what one was. I asked: ‘Will you please explain to me what that means?’ All you have to do is be honest, not smart-alecky, and say to people: ‘I really don’t understand,’ and they will help you," he says enthusiastically. And like any entrepreneur, he takes for granted the need to save and invest. "The mistakes we made?" Baker muses. "When we made a little money, we bought a Cadillac, not a house."

Don’t wait for Baker to get a hearing in official Cincinnati; his views are just too radical. Most galling, he denies the charge of systemic racism. "This used to be a prejudiced city, but that’s changed," he says. "Blacks are making lots of money now." The racial-profiling controversy? He’s not buying it. "I’m a disciplinarian. There’s no reason to get into trouble."

What a difference it would make if Jones were as lionized for suppressing the drug trade on Burnet Avenue as Damon Lynch is for organizing boycotts, or if the press gave legitimacy to people like Jones and Babe Baker instead of to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. If the media did pay attention to the racial nonconformists, it would find a large, untapped audience, frustrated with conventional black politics but also afraid of retribution for dissent. A downtown Cincinnati business figure who would only speak anonymously told me bitterly: "The civil rights leadership is killing us; it’s absolutely killing us. As white exploitation is a sin, so is black waste. We are living in an unnatural state." Illustrator Galen Bailey blames Lynch and Lawson’s pre-riot rabble-rousing for the violence: "All these young kids needed was for an adult to give them permission to riot," he says in dismay.

Riot ideology in Cincinnati has had its usual effect. In the month following the riots, violent crime of all kinds rocketed up 20 percent. This is not surprising. Not only did the riot ideologists romanticize assaults and theft as a long-overdue blow for justice, but they demonized the police as hard-core racists. Arrests for quality-of-life offenses, disorderly conduct, and drug possession—the firewall against more serious crime—have plummeted since the riots, as the police keep their heads down.

The next time an urban riot hits, the best response is: do nothing. Compensate the property owners, then shut up. Scurrying around with anti-racism task forces and aid packages tells young kids: this is the way to get the world to notice you, this is power—destruction, not staying in school, studying, and accomplishing something lawful. Even better, of course, would be to prevent the next riot before it happens by sending in police in force at the first sign of trouble.

But better even than this, political and business leaders who have not already sold out to the civil rights monopolists should try to break their cartel.
They should find black citizens who are willing to speak about values and personal responsibility, and who embody them in their own lives. They should appear with these citizens at public meetings and put them on task forces, if task forces they must have.
If they do it enough, the press will have to pay attention. And when the voice of hardworking black America becomes familiar, the riot ideology may finally lose its death grip on American politics.'
