Recently, the ZOA was described by The Wall Street Journal as "the most credible
advocate for Israel on the American Jewish scene." The Jerusalem Post said, "The
ZOA is one of the most important and influential Jewish groups in the U.S."

The ZOA's Capitol Hill Office works closely with Congress on issues of import to
U.S.-Israel relations. The ZOA Center for Law and Justice works through the U.S.
judicial system in defense of Israel and Jewish rights, and has recently filed a
complaint under Title VI of the Civil Rights Laws concerning discrimination
against Jewish students at universities. The ZOA Campus Action Network helps
Jewish students fight pro-Arab propaganda on campus through bringing speakers,
showing films, distributing educational materials, and holding workshops. ZOA
has recently launched a new pro-Israel magazine called The College Zionist and
distributed it at over 100 campuses throughout the country. The ZOA also stages
rallies, holds press conferences, publishes full-page newspaper "issue ads," and
creates publications, to defend Israel's good name and expose the Palestinian
Authority's pro-terrorist behavior. The ZOA is widely credited with leading the
charge to expose and publicize the Palestinian Authority's violations of the
Oslo accords and President Bush's "Road Map" plan.

ZOA speakers appear regularly on the TV and radio programs of the three major
networks as well as of the cable TV leaders Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN.

Earlier this year, the ZOA brought more than 300 pro-Israel activists from
around the country on its 2005 D.C. Mission to Washington. They met with Members
of Congress and staff members to seek support for the Saudi Arabia
Accountability Act and the Palestinian Arab Compliance Act, as well as
resolutions against Hamas and other terrorist groups. They also spoke to
lawmakers about the dangers of creating a Palestinian Arab state, as proposed by
the Bush Road Map plan. The Zionist Organization of America, founded in 1897, is
the oldest pro-Israel organization in the United States. The ZOA works to
strengthen U.S.-Israel relations, educates the American public and Congress
about the dangers that Israel faces, and combats anti-Israel bias in the media
and on college campuses. Its past presidents have included Supreme Court Justice
Louis Brandeis and Rabbi Dr. Abba Hillel Silver.

The ZOA may have been founded in 1807 but they were active long before then. Right back to the first settlement.

Organize a protest for Dec. 11 2005, or start informing everyone you can of this event. Send emails to government reps and keep informed of results of the meeting and of all future activities.

The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC)

Who We Are and What We Do
(View our powerpoint presentation here) * * Got to website to view.

New York City historically has been perceived as an epicenter for upwardly striving immigrant populations. As documented in the recent 2000 census, the City has undergone a demographic transformation on an unprecedented scale during the past several decades.  As home to more than 180 different language and ethnic groups, New York institutions and neighborhoods face a plethora of issues concomitant with the increasing diversification of the City`s residents. Changing demographics are significantly impacting life in communities throughout the City on multiple levels.

The New York Center for Community and Coalition Building, a project of the Commission on Intergroup Relations and Community Concerns at the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, serves as a nexus between community-based organizations and public and private institutions. Communal leadership and policy makers from public and private sectors will be better equipped to develop strategies, partnerships and initiatives to more effectively deal with the full range of issues confronting today`s urban communities.

Community Uplink brings together, in a journal-style forum, significant news and events from the diverse ethnic, religious and racial groups in New York. Community Uplink offers the media arm needed to update the wide variety of active bodies in the greater New York Community.  Community Uplink works to engender a community capable of wielding the most up-to-date tools of the trade to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

The urban Jewish event guide. If it's not here it's not happening.
