TEHRAN (FNA)- The US-led military coalition has reportedly relocated its headquarters in Iraq to Kuwait in the wake of the assassination of Iranian and Iraqi commanders and public rage over the Washington's terrorist attack.

Arabic-language Al-Forat news agency reported that the alliance took the decision on Tuesday to move its command center from the Iraqi capital Baghdad to Kuwait City. The Qatar-based and Arabic-language Al-Jazeera news network, citing a report published by German DPA news agency, later confirmed the account.

The development came after the Iraqi Parliament had passed a resolution to work to end the foreign troop presence in the Arab country in the wake of the US targeted assassination of a top Iranian general and a commander of Iraqi popular forces.

As tension soars in the wake of the US assassination operation, the US Air Force is sending six B-52 Stratofortress long-range bombers to Diego Garcia, a secretive military outpost in the Indian Ocean. The six bombers will follow nearly 4,000 US troops deployed to the region since last week.

The B-52 deployment is not the only one in recent months, with four more of the long-range heavy bombers sent to Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar last May, also for the purpose of countering the so-called “Iranian threat”.

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani was martyred in a targeted assassination raid by US aircraft in Baghdad early Friday morning. The airstrike also martyred Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), or Hashad al-Shabi.

Five Iranian and five Iraqi militaries were also martyred by missiles fired by the US drone at Baghdad International Airport.

The Pentagon confirmed the attack in a statement.

The attack came amid tensions that started by the US attack on PMF units that killed 28 Iraqi popular forces. A day later, Iraqi people attacked the US embassy in Baghdad. On Wednesday, President Donald Trump ordered about 750 US soldiers deployed to the Middle East.

The assault represents a dramatic escalation by the US toward Iran after months of tensions. The tensions take root in Trump’s decision in May 2018 to withdraw the US from Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers, struck under his predecessor.

Iranian officials branded the airstrike an “act of international terrorism” and promised retaliation. Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has stated that the Unites States must await a tough revenge.
