US pressuring Netherlands to send troops to Syria

By Leith Aboufadel -2019-06-270

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) – The United States wants the Netherlands to deploy troops to Syria to prevent the reemergence of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) inside the country, the NL Times reported, citing Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands.

According to Hoekstra, the U.S. wants the Netherlands to provide “military assets on the ground” after the European nation sharply criticized Washington’s move to withdraw forces from Syra.

“So we are optimistic that after this rhetoric and this criticism, the Dutch will continue to contribute to what they believe is needed in Syria,” Hoekstra said, adding that “the decision for a new mission in Syria is a direct result of this criticism from the Netherlands and other allies, according to the ambassador. President Donald Trump and the National Security Council took note of this ‘feedback’ and developed a strategy to maintain an “appropriate presence in Syria”.

The Netherlands’ policy when it comes to Syria has often mirrored the U.S.’ despite the absence of their forces from the country.

R ~ I recall the Dutch were the first to strike Serbia. As having been born in that nation the shame of that attack still persists. If the Dutch want to fight terrorism they can do right at home. There are Swarte Piet's throughout the country now tearing at the fabric of the culture. The ME is already in Holland.
