http://www.icepilots.com/ tv show reveals that rent is skyrocketing in Yellowknife NWT Canada.  So much for migrating to the Great White North in search for an affordable lifestyle.  Show features rookie pilots dismayed by absurd apartment costs ("Vancouver prices...without the Vancouver").  Rookie pilots forced to scavenge city dump for furniture due to insane apartment costs.  Hell, it's not as if they're hemmed in up there & don't have space to build, it's basically in the middle of nowhere.

$1,500 rent for avg 1-bedroom apartment.

Yellowknife zoning commissars' regulations have 30 pages just in definitions, over 200 pages total:

I'm no expert on Canadian Crypto-ology, but I present luminaries of NWT Legislative Assembly:

Bob McLeod, obvious crypto, he's Premier of North West Territories:

Jackie Jacobson, yeah

Tom Beaulieu, perhaps

J. Michael Miltenberger, yeah

Moving on to Yellowknife local commissars:

Lydia Bardak, yup, also "Co-Chair of the Yellowknife Homelessness Coalition".  How the f**k can one be homeless up there?  Isn't that a synonym for "dead"?  Was there any homelessness before these criminals arrived?

Mark Heyck (likely lad)

Amanda Mallon, yup

Tundra carpetbaggers.  Joos are the first "community activists" to speak out at zoning hearings against affordable housing but control Homeless Inc.

Mitch Snyder was head of DC's biggest group, lionized by media, portrayed on tv by crypto Martin Sheen.  Obvious jew yet Wiki implies he's gentile (though they note his extensive criminal history).  Snyder notorious about harassing churches for supposed neglect, AFAIK he never mentioned the joos.

Joo Barry Berke is chair of NYC Homeless Coalition; day job is defending Wall St crooks.

This is pretty depressing.
A microcosm view of what's been going on all over the United States.

Is there new oil/gas industry up there?  How is it people can even afford that?

Yellowknife area has booming diamond mining plus oil etc.  Edmonton Journal article emphasizes cost of shipping in building materials but barely mentions bureaucratic obstacles saying only that acquiring land is "prohibitive" without explaining why.  Journal says shipping pre-fab housing too costly yet the mining industry manages to truck in (see the show Ice Road Truckers?) huge heavy equipment to places more remote than Yellowknife.  & of course if the joos up there would allow a free-market they could truck in housing materials & assemble them there.  Maybe some folks could only afford tiny spartan apartments/houses but that sure beats sleeping in -50 C.

Of course southern Canada & lower 48 don't have the excuse of remoteness but still have the housing crunch you mention.  JMSM rarely pays attention & when they do it's bs about homeless are mostly substance abusers or schizos.  There's always been crazies, drunks & bums but in the olden days there were low-cost housing options.

Seattle "Hooverville"--nowadays Authoritays would have torn it down pronto:

Most of what I saw at that link with the outrageous rents looked like pre-fab to me.  Under certain market conditions you could perhaps justify skyrocketing rents such as new industry where a lot of people would want to relocate and only a limited amount of housing available, however it would only be very temporary (less than a year I'd think).  Even so, the company should be responsible to its host community and bring in the temporary housing themselves.

I don't see what could be so cost-prohibitive about plunking prefab onto the back of a truck and setting up housing in a place like Yellowknife.

About Yellowknife

At the edge of the Arctic, in the heart of the wilderness, lies a city of youth, energy, adventure and prosperity. Yellowknife is a culturally rich capital thriving with diversity, and home to about 20,000 people. Located on the shores of the beautiful Great Slave Lake, only 512 km south of the Arctic Circle, we are known for our outdoor recreation, midnight sun, aurora borealis and an unusual blend of northern culture... a City where history is found throughout a modern, bustling metropolis.

Built on gold, nurtured by government and growing with diamonds, Yellowknife offers unrivalled opportunities for investment, tourism, business development and employment.  The abundance of minerals, oil and gas in the NWT has had dramatic economic impacts on Yellowknife.  Since the discovery of diamonds in 1991, we have three operating diamond mines in the NWT.

If there is any part of Canada that can say "we hold the future", it must certainly be Yellowknife - The Diamond Capital of North Americaâ„¢.Attachment (6.2 MB)

Canadian Jews or Jewish Canadians are Canadian citizens of the Jewish faith and/or Jewish ethnicity. Canada boasts the fourth largest Jewish community in the world, exceeded only by the United States, France, and Israel.

I'm aware of that. Christian Zionist H. is their knight in shining amour here, just like his counterparts are elsewhere.
